Its all politics. They have some reason to be interested in this guy, but they play dumb since they dont know all the facts and literally just flat out lie and say he isnt a suspect. They basically think everyone is dumb. If someone is being questions, they are a person of interest. Just come out and say that since everyone knows that already anyway.

Well one thing we know about terrorism on US soil is they are fucking thorough. They dont let guys go when they have reason to suspect they might be involved. They have a lot of people working very fast. It never seems to take very long to get these things solved.
Look at the OKC bombing. What did it take them about a day to figure that one out? Actually I think they caught McVeigh that very same day. Thats pretty amazing when you think about it. To find the right needle in a stack of needles.

The story of how they caught McVeigh is pretty random:
By tracing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of a rear axle found in the wreckage, the FBI identified the vehicle as a Ryder Rental box truck rented from Junction City, Kansas. Workers at the agency assisted an FBI artist in creating a sketch of the renter, who had used the alias "Robert Kling". The sketch was shown in the area. Lea McGown, manager of the local Dreamland Hotel, identified the sketch as Timothy McVeigh.

Yea I knew he got pulled over randomly and was caught that way, but there have actually been a lot of little terrorism incidents over the last 10 years, most unsuccessful that were all solved.
That guy that tried to set a bomb off in Times Square a couple years ago, caught very quickly. Usually when people try to pull off something in a big city its just impossible to get away with it. There always seems to be ways to track them down.
- Referring to McVeigh being pulled over for some reason, cant remember, possibly speeding.CygnusZero4

If Boston has as many video cameras as New York, then I imagine they'll pinpoint the suspect fairly quickly. When crimes are committed here, there's always a surveillance shot of them, and the suspects are generally caught within 3 days.
- Yep. Its damn near impossible to get away with large scale shit on US soil.CygnusZero4
- They always seem to track them down. There isnt many large unsolved events in the US.CygnusZero4
- police are actively asking for private video so who knows what they have.monkeyshine
- CygnusZero40
Its actually so rare that anyone ever gets away with anything big in the US that its almost impossible for me to believe that the person that did this actually thinks he will get away with it. He must know he's going to get caught.
- unless hes smart, most of these guys are dumb as rocksmoldero
- except for that uni-bomber guy
wasnt he supposed to be smart?moldero - unless you are bush or current administration. well connected + politically significant.yurimon
- shit, i just wikid Kaczynski, i didnt know he was bombing since 1978. crazy!
moldero - good point yuri, there are a lot of unanswered major events in the USmoldero
- There isnt a lot. There are some serial killer cases, but terrorism on a large scale? No.CygnusZero4
- well there is that 9/11 thing, but if that conspiracy was true, the governments not gonna bust itself i guess.moldero
- CygnusZero40
They are fucking thorough. Even just something as little as knowing there's ball bearings in the bombs, they start investing anyone who's bought them all of the country. Then they do background checks on all of them. My brother in law works for the FBI. Its damn near impossible to pull off something like this and get away with it.
- It happens, didn't you see Zodiac?ukit2
- Serial killer. Thats a little different. Those are spread out over time.CygnusZero4
- <see #6 ^moldero
- A large scale terror event on US soil, is there any that are unsolved? I dont even think there is.CygnusZero4
- well maybe the FBI should investigate all that false flag stuff, or anyone should investigate it for that mattermoldero
- The difference is with a terror event, thats when the government gets involved hot n heavy.CygnusZero4
- Thats when these guys get caught. With serial killers its usually local investigators.CygnusZero4
- Limited resources. Cannot put 100s of people on the case to track down leads.CygnusZero4
- every time i hit refresh theres a new post, awesomemoldero
- True, plus modern techniques vs what they had back thenukit2

It took a long time for them to catch the Unibomber, and it was actually his brother that read the manuscript that the Unibomber wrote, and recognized some things that his brother would say or that he believed in.

I hate that one of my first reactions after something like this is "why wasn't it so much worse?" I hate that the modern world has taught us that it's not that hard to inflict serious destruction on people. You see similar things in the Middle East killing dozens per incident. It's horrible no matter where.
- Relatively speaking it was only a little 'pouff!!', compared to the military stuff and carbombs you see. Doesn't take much.mikotondria3
- We're very delicate wobbly bags of fluid that don't respond well to even 200db of blast, let alone any shrapnel.mikotondria3

"At the starting line this morning, they had bomb sniffing dogs and the bomb squad out there," he said. "They kept announcing to runners not to be alarmed, that they were running a training exercise."He added, "I've run a lot of races like this one, but I never saw bomb dogs at the starting line of any running event. It led me to believe that something like (a bomb detonation) might have happened.
