New series on Cinemax (about 7-8 episodes in now)... anyone watching?
Steven Soderbergh directs... Clive Owen acts...
Really creepy look at medicine in the early 20th century based on the Knickerbocker Hospital in NYC.The original soundtrack is quite unexpected too... but blends eerily well with the era and themes of the show:

Episode 1 was a snore, except for the gory surgery scenes.

Surgery porn.

I think the show has been pretty interesting. The lighting is quite well done. And that sound track works despite itself.

I expect Soderberg direction to make this a veeery slow developing impactful story.

I enjoyed the entire season. More than I expected to. Looking forward to more.

ok, just watched the 1st ep. really like it so far. love the visual attention to detail as a period piece.
thematically it feels a little 'housey' with his drug addiction, prickly personality, and often unwelcome candor but i always liked that character so it works for me. the racial tensions maybe feel a little 'acted' or forced but that would be my only small gripe so far. the acting is decent enough!
and as for the blood and guts - they don't waste any time showing the audience what they've got in store for them (5 minutes in they're attempting to perform an early c-section - i believe?). pretty detailed and not your typical quick shot and camera back on their faces - you're there watching pretty much everything from opening to sewing them up - so maybe something to consider before watching over dinner?
on to the next ep.

I would say the surgery scenes are quite graphic but not gratuitous and there is a lot more going on in each story. Even if I were squeamish I would endure that for the sake of the show on the whole. The historical relevance is fantastic and you'll learn a lot of medical, New York and social history. I can't wait for season 2.

so much to recommend with Season 2 ...
Soderbergh has done an outstanding job putting this show together. Cinematography, Editing, Score all work so well together.

Such an amazing show. Can't wait for season 3
- I read some reports that viewership dropped from Season 1 and that this might have a been a series finale.
Really hope this is false.Ramanisky2
