    I believe holding a poster with the designer including on the photo is a great example of "ego stroking" as you call it. Is a way to show the face that is usually unknown and connect it to the work.

    I have seen specific cases where the face was visible and the poster was not a poster, but a "letter size" page and because of the open shot needed to capture the designer's face, the actual work took a very small place in the composition..
