Like everything else ever piece of gear has it pluses and minuses - the pieces you bring up are fine for some small b-roll shots. The camera rigs (not that much bigger than the DSLR in the pic above) i'm dealing with are too unwieldy to give you quality shots if you are looking for anything else other than some insignificant b-roll (where if it wobbles it's ok because you will simply use the non-wobbly part or just redo the shot). When you are doing an interview or timed shots there is no do-over so the piece of gear has to work the first time around.
