I fly Ryanair many times a year, never had any serious problems with them.
They fly on a tight schedule, hence are more punctual than any other airline in Europe. Their website, which used to look like designed by godaddy marketing experts, was redone recently to be more user friendly, and it is. The price you see is basically the price you get (you might get extra €2 or 3 for using a credit card or PayPal).

This said, some ticket buying tips:

Insurance: choose "don't insure me" if you have travel insurance, e.g. with your credit card. Chances of losing luggage are almost nil since those are all direct flights. In EU you have plenty of statutory rights anyway if flight gets cancelled, delayed, etc.

Numbered seats: you either pay for a seat you pick, or get one auto-assigned when checking in online. If you check in very late when most people are checked in, you're very likely to get one of the premium seats nobody wanted to pay extra for (more legroom, or close to exit), they also put you in the priority queue for free.

Note: automatically assigned seats could mean you sit in front, your gwife in the very back, but it's not always the case, we recently got 2 next to each other.

Hand luggage: they are much more relaxed about it now. 20x40x55 cm (up to 10 Kilos) and another smaller bag 20x20x35 cm, perfect for a camera bag or a laptop and stuff.

They're "more relaxed" now and rarely check your bag size these days, but they sometimes do and the hefty fee for oversize hand luggage is still in place.

    • ditto, people that are complaining forget we use to pay hundreds of euro just to fly from one country to the otherGeorgesIV
