I second robotron's Vietnam suggestion. Saigon is just awesome, chaotic sensory overload, Hoi An is foodie heaven, and Phu Quoc island (west of Can Tho and the Mekong Delta) in the Gulf of Thailand has some of the most amazing beaches and you've ever seen. Be sure to stay on the western side of the island for picture-perfect sunsets.

And, yes: hotels in VN are shockingly cheap, and you can get superb quality for the price.

    • how is the sanitation situation? Not india-like is it?_niko
    • Aside from common sense things like not drinking the tap water and always washing your hands, I found it remarkably clean.Continuity
    • That having been said, I've not been to India (nor ever will be), so I can't really compare.Continuity
    • Keep in mind, though, it's still a 2nd world country, so don't expect Scandinavian- or Swiss-style obsessive surgical cleanliness.Continuity
    • And don't forget the coffee, the coffee in Vietnam is amazingrobotron3k
    • Fuck, yes.Continuity
    • I thought the coffee in Viet Nam was literally shit?
