Regarding Tony Gwynn and autographs... Around 1991 he was doing a signing at the Costco (then Price Club) on Morena.

My dad took my brother and I to get his autograph. We brought baseballs to have him sign, but he said he said he wasn't allowed to sign them. He said he could only sign the stack of 8x10 No Fear branded mini posters on the table, and gave my brother and I each a couple of those. (Yes, No Fear!)

But he told us he was almost done signing and if we wait with our baseballs outside he'd sign them for us too.

My dad (a huge baseball fan) started chatting up Tony. He said, "I grew up in Pittsburgh watching Roberto Clemente, and I never saw him go 5-for-5. But I've seen you do it in person twice."

Tony thought my dad was pulling his leg, so he jokingly quizzed him. "Oh yeah, what season? Who were we playing"

My Dad was stumped for a minute and then said, "Wait, one of them was in the early spring and you didn't get your 5th hit until the 10th inning!"

Without missing a beat Tony said, "The Dodgers!" and we all started laughing.

Tony signed our baseballs and also posed for a photo with us, which has been lost for years now.

That guy was a true class act.
