"It’s mainly Nato and the EU who care about the war in Ukraine

For much of the rest of the world it’s not such a big deal

...There are wider lessons to be drawn from the handling of the Ukraine war in the UN. Commentators often refer to international opinion as if it is synonymous with the views of a limited number of liberal democracies, as if the “end of history” predicted in 1992 by the political philosopher Francis Fukuyama means that we all now share the same set of values. But we don’t. Beyond Nato and the EU, there are only a handful of countries whose political instincts are likely to be identical to ours on most issues. Being a democracy, which both India and South Africa are, does not mean seeing the world the way that Britain does."

    • I had to Google his name just to make sure it was real... " Fukyumama"nbq

    • Most countries agree that territorial sovereignty should be preserved. However countries that are far from the action and need Russian oil aren't gonna say shitmandomafioso
    • So it's ok to not give a damn about wars amongst places and people who are not our own. Gotcha. Will remember this for next time... .Nairn
    • ^^projecting much?Khurram
    • But you don't "give a damn..." do you?Khurram
    • They probably do give a damn, but political necessity within their own country, namely, keeping the lights on takes precedence. I wish it wasn't so.mandomafioso
    • My apologies, perhaps I've misinterpreted your various accusations elsewhere in this thread. Clearly and abundantly - it's me projecting here.Nairn
    • What accusations? And how do they relate to this post? Do explain, Nairn.Khurram
