The thing is, 5k is native to the OS. The old Thunderbolt displays were 2560x1440, which I think were also native.

I haven't worked with a 4k monitor on a Mac, but some say they can see the difference between 4k and 5k.

I have the Studio and Monitor to replace my 5k iMac, pretty happy with it.

    • 4k = crush your GPU due to scaling.shapesalad
    • A designer’s eye can see the difference between 4k and 5k (at 27inch) but it’s a subtle difference.nb
    • If there was a truly matte 5k 27 inch monitor I would buy it 2x the price. It does not exist.nb
    • If there was a matte 4.5K at 24 inch, I would buy that.nb
