Hi,
My operating system is windows xp professional.I got this message before logging on
//Windows cannot load profile because it may be corrupted. Contact your administrator.//
then it is followed by
// Cannot find the local profile and logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.//
What happenned? What can I do? Can I recover the profile?
Thanks
- numero10
hope this works
Go to: START> ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > System Restore
click the last known good restore point
hope it works

first thing i would do isto go into your profiles folder and copy out all your files
- HAMT0
thanks numero1 it worked !!!!
sexypisel = I searched for the profiles folder but I got other profiles. When can I find my prodile?
- sexypixel0
glad you got it back. your profile is in c:/documents and settings and whatever your login is.
you can do a backup by going to start/programs/accesories/system tools/ files and settings transfer wizard.your profile is your bookmarks, cookies, temp internet files and whatever is on your desktop. a good idea to back it up every now and again.

Change to Win2000professional, Xp not very trustable...and sexypixel is right, backup is very important no matter what OS you have

winxppro is the exact same thing as 2k pro with added user friendly features, thats all.
it still uses the same NT kernel, and is quite stable.

I Agree, but all the funy litle stuff to entertain, to make it pretty, thats not realy usefull and sometimes gives u some conflict problems...bn there

I've been using XP Pro for a year with no problems, has'nt even crashed yet. The most stable OS i've used so far, i don't know where your getting this 'not very trustable (?)' from.
- HAMT0
Beleive me, I've learnt to back up. It is really important. Thanks for the help dudes.
I've found XP reliable, but it is a windows os after all so now and then there are gonna be problems.

I hate XP(pro). I was cruising along with 2k just fine and ever since the switch to XP i've been fraught with problems, usually just little things, but just strange things that seldom repeat themselves in the same way. I find XP to be far more unpredictable than 2k

I agree that xp pro has a few problems, but the additions make it worth it. I used 2kpro for a two years and am now on xp pro, a few little glitches but if your tweek a few things here and there it can run like a dream

but, most 'little glitches' can be fixed if you know what you're doing.
xp runs stable and smooth with a few simple registry hacks and add ons like the ms power tools and some 3rd party utilities.
no, and i mean no, operating system straight out of the box works right, save how you want/need it to run.
my os usage is split around 70% linux 29% windows and 1% mac (osx). and, it took good near 2 months to get all of those systems running smoothing and the way i wanted them to run.
computers are not passive objects you just plug in and use - despite what the manufacturers say. you have to know how to use it first.
:)

true that....
manufacturers, they are a joke.
I think some people had problems when they were running previous windows os, formatted, and then installed xp pro than buying a new system with xp pro.
