I'm getting screwed

So I purposely started my new job on Dec. 1, thinking with the 3 month probation period my benefits would start on March 1.
I was walking around town thinking I was slick shit, but god what a cockhat move!! After asking the secretary about it for the past 2 weeks I find out today that I'm not eligible until April 1. Apparently once you become eligible for benefits you have to wait until the next month to start. Even if you start on the 1st!
I effectively screwed myself out of a full month of health insurance!! I could have just as easily started the job on Nov. 30 and been covered starting today. Now I'm stuck with another month paying $200 out of pocket for this COBRA crap. Awesomeness.
I know all you veterans are laughing cuz you know this shit already and this is child's play. But for everyone else..please remember to start jobs at the end of the month.

sorry...COBRA blows...you're lucky it's just yourself you're payin' fer.
Buddy o'mine had to do COBRA for himself and family...cost him $1,100 a month. ouch

if you have to pay out of pocket you may as well take up a dangerous hobby for march.
picking barfights comes to mind.

I don't have health insurance. I have a trenchcoat made of armadillo armor. Nothing gets through there. I never get sick*

Yeah I guess $200 isn't too bad, and I am lucky that its only myself I need to cover. I would just go without it, but I'm one of those worst case scenario kind of people and I would sleep better knowing I'm insured.
Still, I'm just pissed at the rediculousness of this system! But I have an idea now...if/when I quit I will make my last day the 1st. That way I'll screw them out of a month! I think its only fair.

You know I just can't win. Entering my first month of company-sponsored health insurance, I find out that our premiums are going up to double what they used to be.
I'm going to be paying $82.02 per month just to cover myself. I can get a decent plan all on my own for like $30 more than that. Not much of a "benefit" if you ask me.

I've had insurance/haven't had insurance for about 5 years now. I never use it.
If someone cuts my arm off with a samurai sword when I leave work today, I blame this thread for jinxing me.
