Okay so I'm trying to make the smallest file possible, and if I export a quicktime movie, it's smaller than if I were to just render the composition. Does anyone know why this is? And is there a way to get it even smaller without sacrificing quality?

Um...not sure what you are after but the codecs (compression/decompression) are what affects the quality and file size. The new on2 codec (at least for Flash 8 player) is a a really nice quality at smaller file size. MPEG-4 is not bad either and historically we have compressed QTs through squeeze using Sorenson Video 3.
So I think the secret is in the codec you use for your QT renders. But realize not everyone may have the codec needed to view the QT.
Does that help?
