I dressed myself this morning without any help.
I can't draw entire cities after a 45 minute helicpter ride though.
I must say I do find the whole savant thing hugely interesting though, Kim Peek is a fascinating case and I would recommend Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammet who is a savant (the only one who can actually explain how his mind works out sums/mathematical problems etc) if anyone wants some reading on this sort of thing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Born-Blu…

I'd say so, considering the varity of all the talents but limitation to "just" one skill.
Just speculation, of course.

exactly, moth. every human brain has the potential to apprehend and then retrieve this sort of data.
i find myself wondering if the migration of this skill from the subconscious to the conscious level implies the necessary impairment or reduction of facility in certain other functions; e.g. socialising, emotional intelligence, etc.

It's not that amazing when you think about the required computation by the brain when you catch a ball by reflex - something a computer can not do.
If you think of the brain as a chip - why could you not capture an image in it like a camera and reference it later? The mind blowing bit for me is why we can't all do it, and what would happen if we could.

Great post. For every one like him there's countless autistic children growing up in single parent families without access to care.....and then that's just ONE of the multitude of mental ilnessess that people get just for having a gene in the wrong place.
So if the client says he wants it a different red to the one you want today..... it's not that bad.

A lot of these people with psychological problems are geniuses. One of the wonders of the world right now, but hopefully more will be revealed with further studies.

Stephen Wiltshire is a human camera. He’s an autistic man who accurately draws entire cities from memory...
