anyone know of other software like SimpleViewer?

What about Slideshow Pro and the php based manager SSP Director, I used it several times, works great and it's really cheap.

You can export an automatic gallery into Flash through Photoshop CS2 and CS3.

used this one for a client:
http://spgm.sourceforge.net/took sometime to set-up and customize, but then it's simply a matter of dumping images in a directory and the php does the rest.
- can you use this with flash to read the directories? not good with PHP...mitee_
