Dude, you can't turn water into wine. It's science.
Don't make me out to be ill educated just because I'm not religious. People are entitled to have their faiths, I don't have to follow...
- Science can be easily subverted by the person who invented molecules.gramme

I don't share your common western prejudice against the supernatural.
But the topic was whether he existed I thought. Not what he did.

Khurram: There are over 21,000 NT manuscripts alone which all give the same essential accounts with variants that only compliment the others, not contradict.
Rather than regurgitating the misinformation you've heard from someone else, study it for yourself. Here's a primer for you:
- 21,000???? How the fuck did you come to a number like that???Khurram
- The EARLIEST account of the man were written by St Paul, YEARS after his death.Khurram
- I know cos i saw a 90min Channel 4 documentary over Xmas, so there :-PKhurram

Scholars who are authorities on the subject, are a start.teleos - If you did a cursory study of the science of textual criticism. You'd know why that don't mattter.teleos
- LOL, so when you said 21,000 manuscripts, you meant 21,000 copies of the same document?? LOLKhurram
- LOL! no. Learn about the Codex Vaticanus, Codex Sinaiticus and the geometric (non linear) transmission of the first manuscript writings.teleos

As a total non-believer I would say that I don't question that a man named Jesus existed roughly when they say he did, and that he came to symbolise the son of a god. Doesn't mean he was the son of god. Doesn't mean that after all is said an done he was any more special than the reverned Jim Jones. But I would reckon a man did exist to give birth to the legend of the prophet and the son of god.

Jesus is INSIDE ME
- teleos0
I am compelled to believe what is written about Jesus in the NT scriptures because the evidence for the manuscript reliability and preservation is astounding.

Josephus, a non-believing Jewish historian, also wrote about Jesus' life and death.
There are more written records of Jesus' life (most of them outside the canon of Scripture as they are more historical than redemptive) than there are of the life and doings of Julius Caesar.
Nobody questions whether Caesar lived, because he didn't claim to be the Son of God, nor was he raised from the dead. People don't want to believe in the unprovable metaphysical because to them it is not safe, it is not quantifiable. Faith can only be given by God, it can't be found in a historical record, even though an understanding of history can strengthen one's faith.
- I realize the odd juxtaposition of my comments with the picture above ^.gramme
- Does he make good tacos? I like tacos.czawada
- Dude, the earliest reliable mention of Jesus is by St Paul. And he only ever saw jesus in visions!Khurram
- juxtaposition as in, both are hard too believe? :P********
- wait both the three?********
- Nonsense, Khuramm. The gospel of John was penned not long after Christ's departure and then there's also oral tradition which preceeded that.teleos
- Oral sex?czawada
- Khurram0
umm, Caesar was talked about throughout his life, documented in his OWN letters and buildings and shit he dun, talked about by cultures and nations outside Rome. From birth till after death. As well as all the characters surrounding him, cleopatra, Brutus, Pompei etc. All documented.
Jesus isn't mentioned until LONG after his death, by really sketchy cultists. Very little else is known outside what these "Christian's" wrote in their new testament when St Paul was out creating his new religion.
No mention in the histories of the Romans, the court records of Pontious Pilot, or any other documents.

Oh god.
