But with polygamy you're almost making rape and incest a family value. Polygamy is not a good thing any way you slice it. (Except for the man of course who gets action from a different wife every night.)
- But this is difficult to prove.Jaline
- polygamy is entirely separate from rape and incestBonSeff
- That may be all you've ever seen of polygamy, not necessarily what it is.ismith
- agree with the previous 2. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand.flashbender
- yeah, that tooJaline
- Agreed. They don't necessarily go hand in hand but it seems like it's quite common.mandomafioso

I can't see the bloody video. Is it US only / blocked to outside IPs or whatever?

rape and polygamy are mutually exclusive arguments; whereby rape is not a grounds to define polygamy- it's wrongs' or otherwise.

not really.. not for those families who did not engage in rape or incest and had their children ripped.
- but those families voluntarily took part in illegal activities. I'm not saying that their kids should be ripped, but they broke thePoint5
- law, and we all know that consequences aren't always just and/or fair. it's a bad situation, but if you endangerPoint5
- your children by involving them in illegal activities, you as a parent are to blame.Point5

I think it's reasonable to assume that those other children were in the same danger of being raped or abused. It's protocol in abuse cases, and it all happened on the same private property.

Ok I don't want to watch. Anything involving the distress of children leaves me in a black rage that lasts for days on end. I'm out. Burn the guilty, I'll strike the match.

You want to law off your back don't have pregnant 13 year olds walking around in 20+ child households.

I dont agree with the way these people to live but they are entitled to their religious freedom... I would like to have seen this come to a more civil resolution. Just taking your kids away is messed up... but there are some messed up situations going on here.
- the state doesn't take away kids on speculation. DCS is bound by hard evidence and testimony.harlequino

I'm sorry but a child doesn't have an evolved understanding of love at 15, and to be having children by then - when YOU are still just a child is fucked up.
There is a level of brain washing that takes place with all religions, but when people are unable to see or experience life outside of what they are ingrained with since they were born it takes on a cult-like nature.
There is an entire "underground railroad" for these girls that are trying to escape. So they could be out alone in a world they have no experience or put into foster care.
I think foster care is a better option.

ok thanks for enlightening me on some of these facts... I only saw the CNN piece...
but isnt it normal for Mormons to do these things? Dont they have a structure built around this mentality already?
What do they want to do with these kids? They are already messed up... what can they do to help by taking them from their families and bringin them much more pain?
Unless they hate their families... then they are free...
Im 28 and I wonder sometimes if I have an evolved understanding of love

Hmm...
I would imagine some hate their familes but not all.
A far as what they want to do with theses kids: I imagine waning them off the "brainwash" with psychotherapy for both the parents and children gets a bit tricky.
Polygamy is an option within the Mormon religion. They are not forced to do it - but i think the children are born into it, it's like any religious practice....
I am born and raised catholic, but when i got old enough and got world experience many different opinions weigh in on my beliefs, and i'm pretty much athiest by now - although i dont proclaim it.
But that's the thing is i formed my own opinions which one would be uncapable of in a closed environment. So i dont quite have an answer - i just know these kids need to experience the world outside of what they have been handed.

Give them Xbox 360s and the latest Grand Theft Auto. They'll all be fine in 3 months.
- ASL?tasty
- true...they can then turn their fear and anger into hit points.dskz
- and learn how the real world works.
I don't get the ASL? thing.flashbender

Why even haggle over the religious aspects or the "family" aspect? The question is whether or not these 400 minors have been sexually assaulted, abused, or in a dangerous environment.
- ismith0
Does marriage have to do with love in a legal sense, or rather joint tax returns and sharing of property?
- dskz0
My problem is this...
They just took 400 kids away from their families who have this structure going... now what?
In other parts of the world kids are born into tribes that rely on pre-technology conditions... do we need to take them and show them what a great world we really live in?
I dont know I guess Im forgetting that these kids are being sexually abused... but is it abuse or is it just the way it is? Dont act like kids arent having sex at 11 years old nowadays...
anyways..i dont really want to defend the polygamists but i like to see both sides of the story before going on modern-day witchhunts.

Witches burn, and what else burns?
Wood!
Yes, and wood floats. What else floats?
... A duck?
Yes! So if this woman weighs as much as a duck, than she is a witch!

so dskz...
Some 50 year old guy who fled the state when authorities showin up banging a bunch of underage girls and seeding the earth, and then leaving the scene to have his glassy eyed "wives" tend the flock...
you're cool with that?(*disclaimer: providing the evidence in court shows this)
