it's kind of like a battered wife. She sticks around for some reason even though she keeps getting beat. But that doesn't make the abuse OK.
There are better parents for these kids out there...if they want them.

sorry, dskz, didn't mean to suggest that you're "cool" with, was being faecetious. Just saying that religion and family structure isn't really the issue.
There are many increasingly diverse family structures which work just fine, sans the abuse and brainwashing. There are many exmaples of "it takes a village" that work great.- a·ce·tious Audio Help [fuh-see-shuhs] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

On to the Evangelic Christians! What a bunch of crazies.

I'm glad they took their kids away. They threw away about a 100 of their own teenage boys a year with no social insurance number, no follow up, no papers, nothing. Boys as young as 13 year olds so the old men would have less competition for the young girls. I hope all those people rot in hell.

"Critics of the sect say it arranges marriages for girls as young as 13 and that competition for brides may be reduced through exiling young men. But FLDS followers deny that abuse occurred at the ranch."
See, that sect already throws it's children in the trash anyway.

Details did an article about these fruitcakes more than 2 years ago. About the "Lost Boys of Arizona" or some shit like that. According to the article a fair number of them end up as hustlers in vegas and LA. What a great group pf people.
So all of you arguing religious this, and family values that... face it, it is about fat, old men fucking young girls and that's about all there is to it.

June 14, 2005:Up to 1,000 teenage boys have been separated from their parents and thrown out of their communities by a polygamous sect to make more young women available for older men, Utah officials claim.
Many of these "Lost Boys", some as young as 13, have simply been dumped on the side of the road in Arizona and Utah, by the leaders of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS), and told they will never see their families again or go to heaven.

Well what choice do these kids have. You can't rent anything at 13. No one can shelter you without risking prison. They have no papers, nothing.

Just read that among Bedouin men in Israel (but I assume it's widespread), the first marriage is arranged, and the consecutive ones are by choice, giving the first wife the lowest status according to the husband.
This is also a way for the man to deal with the gap between tradition and modernity.More fucked up facts (not that western relationships are that different) can be found here if you read Hebrew:
