I dont agree with the way these people to live but they are entitled to their religious freedom... I would like to have seen this come to a more civil resolution. Just taking your kids away is messed up... but there are some messed up situations going on here.
- the state doesn't take away kids on speculation. DCS is bound by hard evidence and testimony.harlequino

I'm sorry but a child doesn't have an evolved understanding of love at 15, and to be having children by then - when YOU are still just a child is fucked up.
There is a level of brain washing that takes place with all religions, but when people are unable to see or experience life outside of what they are ingrained with since they were born it takes on a cult-like nature.
There is an entire "underground railroad" for these girls that are trying to escape. So they could be out alone in a world they have no experience or put into foster care.
I think foster care is a better option.

look, I've got kids and it would be a super shitty situation to have them taken from me. The bottom line here is that these people were breaking the law. Whether you agree with that law or not is irrelevant at this moment; it's the simple fact that they were breaking the law, and for quite some time now. Obviously the law turned the other cheek for a while, but when a phone call came in about a minor who claimed to be (allegedly) sexually assaulted and molested by older men then action has to be taken, right? On the flip side, you've got to stand up for what you believe in I guess... but in this interview you can see these women dodging Larry King's questions about underage wives and sex with minors. These women know what they're doing, what's legal and what's not. They're simply choosing to march to a different beat with a belief that it's all going to be OK and moral in the end. They're just using the children as a smoke screen to block the real issues that were taking place in that compound.
- Their approach to solving their problem wasn't the best, I gotta admit.ismith

I'm actually very surprised people have such a hard-on for disagreeing with me on issues like this, but here goes anyway. Sure I don't agree with polygamy (definitely not), but I don't think it should be illegal. It doesn't hurt anyone (RAPE and forced marriage does, but that's the real crime- not polygamy). You see what I'm trying to say? Legalizing gay marriage was a positive step towards a tolerant state (i.e. no laws based on one group's morals). Being gay and married doesn't hurt anyone, even if it offends someone else's moral views. The worst part is separating the children from their mothers. If they want to investigate rape, then they should investigate rape, not separate 400 or so children from their parents. Even if you think the women are delusional they're probably not terrible parents (like, would sacrifice the kids to god because they're all in trouble or something). I would get to the other stuff but I'm not in the mood really to debate on QBN :P
- True, but I want to know how these people are raised. Ppl should be allowed to choose their own path w/o influence.Jaline
- To some degree. You know what I mean. Some children are not given what they need or want...Jaline
- Also, these women probably don't know what equality means between men and women. This should be known.Jaline
- But nobody bloody knows it- they should be allowed to raise their kids their way the same as any other parent.ismith
- If they harm them, action should be taken. Otherwise, when the kids are older they can choose to give it up or continue in the way that they've accepted.ismith
- continue life the way they already accept it.ismith
- wait... men and women are equal now?flashbender
- How did gender equality get pulled into this? Do you wish to have multiple husbands?ismith
- No, but there are issues of equality here. Come on.Jaline
- I don't mean to nitpick, but you know that the men are treated like gods, and everyone in the media is focusing on the women.Jaline
- women.Jaline
- I don't see it... they're adults, they choose to do what they do.ismith

ok thanks for enlightening me on some of these facts... I only saw the CNN piece...
but isnt it normal for Mormons to do these things? Dont they have a structure built around this mentality already?
What do they want to do with these kids? They are already messed up... what can they do to help by taking them from their families and bringin them much more pain?
Unless they hate their families... then they are free...
Im 28 and I wonder sometimes if I have an evolved understanding of love

I'm glad they took their kids away. They threw away about a 100 of their own teenage boys a year with no social insurance number, no follow up, no papers, nothing. Boys as young as 13 year olds so the old men would have less competition for the young girls. I hope all those people rot in hell.

the kid that made the call hasnt been identified. how do they have a case?

Polygamy should not be illegal? Maybe in theory it could "work" but from what we've seen from the FLDS church, it comes part and parcel with rape and abuse of underage girls. Just because they didn't find the one that made the claim I can all but guarantee that other young girls were raped and abused. Indeed the hard part might be getting the brainwashed young ones to come forward.
- The legally defined rape, you have a case (even consenting minors is rape). But the abuse? Probably no more than any Amish household.ismith
- Amish household.ismith
- And that's okay?mandomafioso
- You missed the slight sarcasm. What I meant is that it's more than our modern way of babying children, but nothing I would call 'abuse'.ismith
- would call 'abuse'.ismith
- The Amish are cool in their own way :Pismith

"Critics of the sect say it arranges marriages for girls as young as 13 and that competition for brides may be reduced through exiling young men. But FLDS followers deny that abuse occurred at the ranch."
See, that sect already throws it's children in the trash anyway.
- no proof, just heresaydskz
- no proof of abuse, but the exiling of young men is documentedflashbender
- these are some fucked up familiesdskz
- DNA testing is underway. If its anything like the Jeffs case it will abundant.Mimio

But with polygamy you're almost making rape and incest a family value. Polygamy is not a good thing any way you slice it. (Except for the man of course who gets action from a different wife every night.)
- But this is difficult to prove.Jaline
- polygamy is entirely separate from rape and incestBonSeff
- That may be all you've ever seen of polygamy, not necessarily what it is.ismith
- agree with the previous 2. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand.flashbender
- yeah, that tooJaline
- Agreed. They don't necessarily go hand in hand but it seems like it's quite common.mandomafioso

I can't see the bloody video. Is it US only / blocked to outside IPs or whatever?

Details did an article about these fruitcakes more than 2 years ago. About the "Lost Boys of Arizona" or some shit like that. According to the article a fair number of them end up as hustlers in vegas and LA. What a great group pf people.
So all of you arguing religious this, and family values that... face it, it is about fat, old men fucking young girls and that's about all there is to it.
- madirish0
rape and polygamy are mutually exclusive arguments; whereby rape is not a grounds to define polygamy- it's wrongs' or otherwise.
