It's OK, you can get good deals sometimes, not sure about their future because of CraigsList. I don't like the web interface, but I do like the Adobe AIR app interface.

is this for your logo analysis?
- Jaline0
Actually, I need to get some opinions about what the company means to other people first, before I can do anything else (apparently).
Thanks.
- < according to my profJaline
- And thought QBN would be a good place to ask.Jaline
- i thought you graduated already!Antonelli
- I did. I'm in college now to focus more on programming (with design)Jaline
- oh, so that graduation was high school.Antonelli
- nicearmsbottomer
- nice @ jaline going to college to study programming + design, not for graduating high school (although congrats on that too)armsbottomer
- No, I graduated from university. I wanted to finish a degree first before studying other things :)Jaline
- University and college are two different things in Canada. University = more theoretical.
College = more hands-on.Jaline - Canadia colleges are confusing. what was your degree in??Antonelli
- Arts. Double major in Mass Communication and English. Basically Media Studies.Jaline

I recently discovered it ranked third most visited website in the world, behind Google, in second place, and Yahoo in first.
That took me by surprise, but that's what the stats indicate.
I seriously haven't ever used ebay, but my impression of it... my personal idea of its brand personality is that if it was a person, it would be 'helping the police with their enquiries'.
'Buyer beware' also springs to mind.

means nothing to me. i've never used it except to see how much some of my old basketball cards were going for.

According to Alexa:

Ebay used to be good, you used to be able to get a deal on things. Or make an honest profit on an item.
Now every one does a buy it now, or sells the item for a low price then jacks up the item with shipping/handling fees.
Someone needs to remake ebay.

It reminds me of pop-culture-ish news stories about people trying to sell odd things like their virginity, a wwii battleship or the like...
... it reminds me of everyday folks who hate their jobs and are bored with life who need annoying hobbies / time-killers in their lives before they goto bed.
- Jaline0
- But does it need one? For their audienceukit
- I think that's an excuse. It should still look clean.Jaline
- I mean, perhaps they don't "need one", since they created this site quickly, I am sure, and everyone still knows it, but a goodJaline
- redesign may improve traffic or help people find things more quickly,Jaline

ebay has too many actual retailers (online companies) that use it to try to get rid of their inventory. i don't think it used to be like that before.

Back in the day Yahoo Auction used to be pretty decent. Then ebay kind of killed it.
From what I gather Yahoo Auction is still popular in some asian countries. But has been discontinued in North America.

I like it for 'looking around' whenever I think I want to buy something I cannot afford or something I can't find anywhere else...but I never bought nor sold anything on ebay.
I did 2 or 3 html-pages for them some years ago and I was surprised about the crappy code the used (pages were for their old design)...
...I think the idea / the service and the functionality are great, but the sitedesign is crap. 'designers'@ebay think more in terms of databases and links, not interaction.
so, go on Jaline, redesign their site (let the logo as is, as this is completely another story), but analyse their clutter, simplify it to the max, and layout it on a consistent clean grid. make it faster and more appealing for the user.

A few thoughts:
Auctions are built on the principle that whatever a bidder is willing to reasonably pay is the true market value of the auctioned item. Fairness would accordingly seem a bedrock value of the company.
Also, I once heard that half of all people globally whom have ever logged on to the Internet have been to eBay.com.

And their advertising had an intelligent humor that refused to sugarcoat gray market opportunities.
