you get 25 days paid vacation days??
omg stop crying!!!!!!!!!!
i dont even get any paid vacation days...
They get the work done though huh?
That's the crux of it. I'd hate to work in a regimented environment where you had designated 15 minutes breaks but were otherwise desk-chained.
You can't really notice/prove who is doing what when it comes to any job that includes computers. But you will notice if there is more physical labour or footwork.
I smoke at the desk all day long. my workflow would be seriously compromised if I had to go outside every time I smoke.
ok how THIS for bad: 4 guys at my work always go smoke together. 4 times a day. One of the guys quits, but he still goes and hangs out outside with the others!!
..so why the fuck am I sitting here slaving away at writing QBN posts when he can go and inhale second hand smoke???
IT'S NOT BLOODY FAIR!!! *runs away sobbing*
strange thing is smokers tend to be better people than non-smokers. Nons are so uptight and afraid of death. let loose, live a little, get over it dudes. Surfs up.
- well, good-looking, cultured smokers anyways, not those smokers who wear sweatpants and hang around outside gas-stations, they don't count.ThePublics
- gas stations, they dont count.ThePublics
- Flat out lie or epic troll?itsmitch
- I think you should put more emphasis on the " live a little " part.Kiko
I love getting under non-smokers skin.
When I was a smoker, and worked in an office, I would take 4 or 5 smoke breaks a day, and never feel the need to justify the fact that I needed a little break, to get away from the tasks at hand, have a little reset and a relax, and come back to the office refreshed and revved up for the job.
I would grudginly ignore the non smokers with their white teeth and ability to stay inside for 8 hours, and their little 'hand waves', which, combined with an exaggerated wrinkling of the nose, and a derogatory 'sniff', meant that they could smell the smoke on me, and didn't like it or approve.
Well guess what - I'd think, you're fucking ugly and I have to look at your stupid fat fucking face all day, but you don't catch me screwing up my petulant little face-hole everytime your foul photons leak into my eyes like 2nd hand ugliness, do I ?
Then I became a non-smoker, with white teeth, and sometimes a little hand-wave. Honestly, it really does fucking stink - bad.. You all look ridiculous, unable to go through one minor stress, or a whole hour or 2 without nipping outside to chuff away - I turn round to ask you something - something I need to know, and that you in your capacity as [your position] need to be there to tell me, and you're outside on the pavement in the rain - it fucks me up. Then you come in smelling like you've trodden in something, and breathe your stupidity exhaust all over me like it's friggin phosgene, and it near makes me gag, and I tell you in fervently righteous terms that - I - am - non - smoker, and - you - are - inferior..
Fuck the people that have never smoked, they can't play this game of officially sanctioned rudeness, but I was an horrifically addicted helpless junkie smoker for 15 years, and I never thought I'd be able to quit because I would pick up cigarette butts in gas stations, or old cigars from the trash and smoke it and feel worthless and helpless and stupid because of my addiction, and I will always be this way, everyday, for the rest of my life, so I CAN play like this, cause I was worse than all of you, out there with your dozen weak puffs on a low-tar Menthol cigarette, 3 times a day - I was the king of foulness and shame and I kicked it, so fuck you if you don't like my little hand waves or my sycophantic underhanded little gripes about your god-given right just to fuck off the job whenver your weak frazzled little nerves get the better of you. Sit down, do the work, don't stink, and smoke on your own time when I don't have to watch your pathetic attempts to control yourselves.
See how stressed the "nons" are?
Stress causes cancer too ;)
I land about half my contracts on smoke breaks.
i would posit that the "stressed nons" here are just stressed people who happen to be non-smokers
i have never habitually smoked cigarettes in my life (cloves a couple times in my late teens, but that's it). i lived in a very small house with 3 smokers. The kind of smokers who would rummage thru the ashtray for a butt that had just a little bit of tobacco in it. Never really bothered me.
In fact, when i first went away for college, when passing someone who was currently smoking, i would actually get homesick, cause it reminded me of friends.
Of course now, as a parent, my view has changed a bit. i have no problem with smokers taking breaks, as long as there's no noticable drop in productivity because of it. but if i see another parent in the car or even in the general vicinity of their child, with a cigarette in their mouths, i feel that disdain for them that miko mentioned
what about parents, always 'gotta leave early to pick up little johnny' or 'little jonny had a boo boo so I'm working from home'
you can go outside or somewhere for a break too, just no need for you to smoke
I would just start bring a flask to work. 4-5 times a day just go outside and take a few swigs.
I'm not a smoker, but I do smoke from time to time. I personally don't have a problem with people taking breaks all day to smoke. Where I actually like the smell of it if someone is smoking around me, the residual smoke smell left on people who just had a cigarette is nasty and the smell on their breath is usually 10 times worse!
The worst combination possible:
Go out for a smoke break...return to the office and drink a large cup of coffee. Finally, be sure and get right up in people's faces when you talk to them so they can smell your turd breath.
I dont smoke at work but when im pissed i love a good cigarette.... mm tastes so good....
I dont mind that the smokers go out for 5-10 min for a ciggy, infact sometimes I go out and stand with a coffee with them. It also makes me feel justified if i want to go sit in the kitchen for 10 min to fanny about, or to browse forums or read about stuff thats not work related. or even to take an extra 30 minutes on my lunch if im feeling brassy....
I worked in a place (a leading creative studio) where I had to be at my desk and working for 9am... if i was in the kitchen making tea at 9.05 I would get shit for not being in on time... that fucked me off... but also smokers were not allowed out, outwith certain break times... Although this lead to me never working late and getting into 'You are expected to work late but never allowed to be 5min late to start ' arguments...
What annoys me about smoking at work is the smell. Coming in after a smoke stinks. I breath it in from colleagues and it jumps down my throat and makes me fucking gag. I tell smokers, when I smell the smoke, that it stinks and could they 'go brush thier fucking teeth or something'.
You know what its like when you are discussing something at a computer screen you get pretty close and well lets say if mateh hasn't washed your going to smell it.
luckily most... i say most... are considerate and this happens rarley.
