Yeah, you can do it with the proper cable (DVI to DVI if your TV has it, otherwise DVI to HDMI).

I used to plug my laptop in to my TV with a DVI cable. It works fine, you can set it up like a regular display in System Preferences once it's connected.

- Yep; I'd be curious to see how long a $1.50 cable lasts, but that's right and should be fine if you don't abuse your electronics.ismith

all you have to make sure is that the cable you pick is long enough.

I just did this between a sony bravia and my g5 imac. Went to the apple store and plunked down 19 bucks for the HDMI cable.
The imac g5 has a special one...had to make three trips because I picked the wrong one, an apple employee gave me the different wrong one, and on the third try I got the right one.
After being disturbed that I only could mirror I googled the following link and now I have a the tv spanning like a separate monitor.

I've got one of the newer MacBook Pros, and I wouldn't mind it connecting to my TV. Since it doesn't have a DVI connection, has anyone any idea what I'll need to connect the two? I've also read that the standard HDMI-to-DVI cable won't transfer the audio and that I'll need a separate audio connection...
Any ideas?

@Not_Just_Another
Yours has a Mini DisplayPort. You can find adaptors to DVI, VGA and HDMI on Apple's site. Your computer is made to support an external display and that's exactly what a flat screen is.Oh, and you're right, the Mac does not output sound through the video port. A separate audio cable is necessary. Makes sense.
