I've had an enquiry for a website from a start-up. The prospect would like to have a client log-in facility, ideally leading to private area for each client (they want to be able to upload pdfs specific to each client for that client's eyes only).
As an alternative the login would take everyone to the same set of pages/pdfs.
The login and password would be applied for via the website, but access will not be granted automatically, the form will be reviewed and approved by a human being.
Cue some classic QBN ribaldry, I guess
Technologically spekaing, is the former (mySQL and php)
In terms of cost... no idea since i'm not a back end dev (and you need one to do that)
in the hope some friendly back end dev is passing thru

php and mysql. Could take a real developer a full day or two or three to do something it its very basic form. I'm sure people already have something like this out there you could use. I'm not a developer and I wrote my own version of something like this.
Just increase your RAM and everything will be fine.
a week or so, maybe more or less.... since this is a startup and you haven't done this sort of thing yourself before, add a few days for the new-to-you-both factor, and possible miscommunications... assume nothing, try to spell it all out, and make sure they're really serious. always get some $$ from a startup up front, developers hear "startup" and begin to wonder about rubberized checks...... There may be an open-source project that already does something like this, but assume that it may be harder to customize than starting from scratch with a good framework... Note also that uploading files larger than a few megs can cause surprises with web hosts,etc....
Funny - I am actually finishing up a system that has all of the functionality and a bit more. It is being used for a corporation as an asset library. They upload files and then set users and retailers and assign which files they can each see. If your client has a little $$ I can modify this for their specific needs.
a lot of cms have something like this, an auth module and granular page permissions, don't necessarily need something custom. silverstripe and drupal come to mind.
I have a contact form that that when filled out and a specific number is entered an email is sent to me that reveals the customer email address pertaining to that specific number entered.
So what I want to do is automate the process: Instead of the email going to me, I would like the contents of that email form to go to the customers email that matches the specific number in the customers account profile.
Anyone up for this? email me at my Fred email and I can try to answer anymore questions.
