lynda tutorial for version 10 will be very helpful, cmivfx as well.
also making it look great for AE+C4D.
and greyscalegorilla, plus maybe cgtuts+.
video tuts are much better than any book, there is none worth it for C4D.

greyscalegorilla.com is easily some of the best intro to 3D stuff I have ever seen.

thinking about getting a new laptop at home to do some Cinema 4D tutorials... dont want something extravagant but do you think i could do this on a Macbook?

Bad render times depend on your render settings as well as CPUs on your computer, if you are rendering on a macbook pro chances are you have 2 CPU's. C4D 11.5 has much better render times with GI and standard render setups. Also look at your materials IE: reflection and glow will take much longer then a standard color or luma channel render

that program should be so simple the paper wasted on a book for it cannot be justified.

i recommend the cineversity.com site the video tutorials are really thorough. Books tend to be a bit daunting and on cineversity you can bounce around as you need to figure stuff out much faster.
