Final bump. Heading out on Tuesday for a month.
Any last ideas for Northern Spain and the Languedoc region? We've got tons of things we're gonna do, but looking for some last hidden gems.

one of the best holidays myself and the g/f had was a few years ago was near that region.
we got the train from London to Narbonne just north of Perpignan and spent a couple of weeks camping and walking along the canal du midi. This is a canal that cuts across the entire south of france. We went through places like Carcassonne etc.
one of the best things was to spend most of the day walking past vineyards and tiny little villages to then call in and buy some of the wine from the vineyard and then camp out eating the food from the little village you walked past (lots of fresh breads and cheeses of course).
we then cut back and went via Perpignan into the Pyrenees. We got the "le petit train jaune" over the pyrenees (stopping to camp in some villages along the way)
Our last stop in france was at the border in a little village right on the spain/france border called Bourge-Madame.
from here we got a train right into barcelona that was really cheap.
we then hooked up with about 20 friends from home and rented a few apartments and went to the Primavera festival.
so if you have the family things like renting boats on the canal du midi and the petit train jaune would be good things to do.

Bump for the euro crowd.

Thanks everyone.
I'm not looking to spend much time, or any, in the Basque region. I have a great deal on an apartment outside Perpignan for a month, and will be using that as my home base, occasionally spending a few days in a different region, I'll have a car the whole time. So it is that part of France and the Catalonia region of Spain with Barcelona as my southern boundary.
Cadaques and Girona are great, and I'm looking for smaller, less-known gems as well.

If you go for just a month I recommend a visit
to any of these places.
Few places in the world have so many Michelin stars per m2

I was about to write Cadaques, but ernexbcn beat me to it. It is a fantastic place, probably the most picturesque of this part of the coast's villages. This is off-season, so only a plus. Dali, who lived there, not only had a demigod status, but also was bringing a lot of tourism. The story goes, he didn't allow to build large hotels there.
It is worth at least a full day stay. The rock formations there are quite unique, maybe you'll recognize them from Dali's paintings.
There is a restaurant on a cliffy cap nearby in Cap de Creus, I never got there in the end but only ever heard raves about both the location and the food.

yup biarritz is ace, good in the summer, would rent a car and do the whole coast around there though, rather than just biarritz. check out anglet and hossegor for surfing, saint jean de luz is lovely, also check out bayonne (ham is a specialty)

Thanks!
I was in Barcelona 10 years ago and have seen the major attractions, but will likely go to them again so my son can check em out. I'll watch my wallet, thanks.
Biarritz - We may go to the west coast, not sure. What's the draw?
Girona - Planning on going. What's to do there?

^ I was nearly pick pocketed on the subway, group of people sort of box you in when you're getting on the subway...
