After watching the ILM series I rented this documentary on Vimeo about Steven “Spaz” Williams, the pioneer CG guy/ animator at ILM in the early days end of 80’s and early 90’s.
Really interesting and tragic story. He became an alcoholic. He’s now 59, unemployed for years and tried to reapply at ILM in 2017 when they rejected him because he insulted them as “pencil necks” in a 90’s interview after he left them.

Not *quite* as good as Knives Out, but still a thoroughly enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours. Looking forward to the third in the series.
- Yeah good one for all the family thatwoowahesque

Nice flick about some nexican kids that are really really into a chopped and screwed version of Cumbia

Went to see Avatar 2. Truly impressed. The old man and Weta still got it and then some. Sure the plot and some aspects of the movie are cheesy but the second half and action scenes and all the CG is insane

- This was useless, blatant and stupid. Had potential for a short while but it's a shit $30million B movie worthy of straight-to-dvd. Embarrassing for the cast.spl33nidoru
- oh righto, will give it a miss thenGardener
- I’m in a mood for a delicious double stack CHEESEBURGER.Ramanisky2
- Anyone curious about this film: watch The Square instead. Similar premise in the art world, 1/6th of the budget but 20 times more interesting + an actual plot.spl33nidoru
- ^ that dinner in The Square almost gave me a panic attack. So well done.Ramanisky2
- ^ yeah! I must rewatch itspl33nidoru

Caught this the other night. It's good, has that otherworldly Vikings mystical realism thing going on. It's also basically Hamlet (Hamlet→Amleth).
- I loved the chaotic energy of this one.Ramanisky2

Saw Underwater last night. Thought it was really well done suspense/horror movie.
- Saw it in the theater and saw it at home. Much better in the theater.lemmy_k
- Make your home more like a theater then :) that’s what I didmonospaced
- how many people fit in your "home theater" 300 ? 400? because thats what a theater experience is mostly about... community.neverscared
- nah good sound and huge hi def screen
i only enjoy an audience in stupid or funny filmswoowahesque - @never, obviously it's just a home, but for me, it's about the quality of the picture and sound that makes the moviemonospaced
- I'd argue that when people speak of a theater experience, they're also speaking of the quality, the picture size and the immense sound and dynamics.monospaced
- Everything else about a theater experience sucks: hundreds of loud people, eating sounds, can't pause, super expensive, and on and on.monospaced
- I'm not even fighting, I'm just talking about how a movie in a good home theater can be as impactful as in a real theater if you do it right :)monospaced
- Good example is this movie. The “immersive” feel of a big screen and big sound really make it feel scary. A small tv and crappy sound kill that feeling.monospaced
- A good steak and bottle of wine at home is also great. But the experience of getting outside, being with people, random encounters, laughs etc trumps all.inteliboy
- Likewise for watching sport at home versus being at the stadium, or live music. Committing to an experience with a crowd can be amazing.inteliboy
- Triangle of Sadness for example was incredible at the cinema for the ship scene alone - at home would have been fun, but also dulled without the crowd reactioninteliboy
- Both for me, though I need a good movie to lure me out of my cave.YakuZoku
- I have a big TV and a great sound system. Theater has a bigger screen and better sound, plus darkness during the day, plus screams at the jump scares. Home...lemmy_k
- can never match that. It can, however, be great when you don't want the crowd and want to watch Mad Max 2. That one isn't playing anywhere.lemmy_k

Finally watched this, really loved it. Not for everyone I imagine.
