I'm not going out of my way for anything. It's apple that is getting in my way. And I'm upset.
Thinking we are haters is a form of mental masturbation. I'm not 'envious' you have a $500 dollar gadget. I just think you look stupid using it.

I just bought an Apple IIe and I found out Apple doesn't support it anymore. WHAT THE FUCK?

The Apple //e is alive and well at Panic Software's new offices.

@e-pill
Actually the "rumor" is that Panic is currently using this very machine to test out a certain application that I wrote in Applesoft BASIC. And they may upload some video of it when they finish. But the software isn't loaded off a diskette, it's loaded via the cassette tape drive input jack. If I'm very lucky I'll have more to report soon ;)

Imagine if Quicktime was designed this way! Or Preview! Or Safari!
- well aren't all of those examples simply playing or displaying standards-based content? Not creating it?prophet
- Quicktime and Preview have some content creation & editing features.nb
- Besides, all I wanted to do was open the Pages document!nb
- they do indeed have those features but ONLY after you've successfully opened a file to re-export.prophet
- in the end though, whatevs. zzzzprophet

@nb Why are you still on about this? It's one command: "Save As..." I'm just going to copy and paste my earlier post because obviously it hasn't sunken in yet:
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
It's called "Save As."
http://discussions.info.apple.co…...
This iWork '09 behavior is no different than Microsoft Office, or Adobe CS programs, or anything else really that has multiple file format versions. Next time try thinking through the problem rather than posting a GFY thread.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Get on the phone with your client. Go through the process of how to "Save As." Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. And it's easy to memorize, but if they're forgetful you can ask them to write down the steps while you're on the phone explaining it to them. And then this will never be an issue again with that client. Or better yet, how much are you making on this job? iWork '09 is only $79. Just consider it an operations cost. Done. Solved.
Just to be clear, this has nothing to do with Apple. You're trying to use "evil Apple" as a scapegoat to cover for your laziness. I'm not saying this as a fan of Apple. It would be equally true if the company was Microsoft or Adobe or Google or whatever. Apple updated their file format, but left an option in to save down to a version for *this exact situation.* No excuses.
- Ironic how Adobe somehow doesn't have that problem...zarkonite
- Uh... Ever try to open CS4 docs in CS3? Same issue.stewdio
- not if you didn't change your default of making files backwards compatible... it also warns you when that is on and you try to save a file with newer featureszarkonite
- you try to save a file with newer features.zarkonite
- Adobe totally has this problem, what are you talking about?arthur
- Almost ALL software has this issue. Backward compatibility is cool, but too much slows things down.monospaced
- zarkonite0
for a company that designs for the best possible user experience and idiot-proofs their software, it's pretty strange that they wouldn't have backwards compatibility on by default.
not that I condone this kind of public whinning, I just think that Apple has it coming whenever they screw this up because they're the ones out there making fun of the competition and pretending to offer better products.

it's called planned obsolescence and leads to landFULLS! fuck a steve jobs
- MHDC0
Anyone mention that Lala is getting killed off end of the month? Thanks Apple.
- ukit0
So all you guys ranting about Apple like Steve Jobs ran over your dog are on PCs using Internet Explorer right?
Right?
- zarkonite0
@ukit
My problem is that mac's are more expensive and that premium we all pay is for things like a better user experience... now if they can't do BETTER than everyone else I do get pissed... my 3500$ mac pro is slower than my 2200$ PC so when the fucking thing won't work BETTER then I think I have cause to complain.

@stewdio:
Could you run through it one more time for me? I still haven't got the file opened. </sarcasm>Again, I'm sorry for making such a silly thread. Next time when I get frustrated I will keep it to myself.
