I thought shinpo was a meme?
for a second I thought you were talking about the rapper Nas...
i have file permission issues with a Buffalo NAS. I'm looking to get a mac mini with os x server.
i've got a mediasmart ex495 and 3 macs at home that all sync perfectly to it using time machine. I currently have 2x 1TB drives and will fill the remaining 2 slots with 2TB drives soon.
i have duplication for certain shares on (photos, etc) so that if one drive takes a dump, i have redundancy. having a built in itunes server allows for a central location for all the media in the house.
had a maxtor at my old job. slow as hell.
I am happy with a recent Time Capsule. It has limited connectivity though, i.e. Ethernet+WiFi for computers, USB for extra drives. Also, t's not very easy to back up.
TheeOtherJuan - can you please fix that link?
@shinpo you get anywhere on this topic?
i just bought this (link below) for centralizing my all my files and hope i dont run into any issues.
@honest - is that using the samba protocols that your permissions keep getting messed up?
I have a Linksys Buffalo NAS and am having considering file permission issues. I am awaiting payment for my next job that will pay for a mac mini server...
^ from lolitafiles.com???
funny, but definitely not helpful
Based on this article from TUAW http://www.tuaw.com/2010/08/19/n… I was thinking about moving on over to a NAS server. Based on the writers comments, including the news from engadget about better mac support on windows home server, I thought that the HP Mediasmart Server EX495 would be a good deal instead of just having a bunch of different, singular, back up drives.
My question is - has anyone had any experince with the HP home server or any other NAS server with mac sync-ability? I have multiple macs at the house plus one XP pc. I am trying to figure out which one would be a good fit for storing data from multiple sources to the server and streaming data, from the server to multiple outlets.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
