Vision trouble

Has anyone here experienced vision trouble from working insanely long hours in front of the computer? I read about this and it seems like a fairly common problem. But I *kinda* need sharp eyes in this line of work. Left eye seems fine, but right eye is suddenly blurry and sometimes I have double vision.
I read about computer-specific glasses prescriptions (I'm nearsighted with a stigmatism). I'm also planning on getting a cinema display ASAP, which will be way better than squinting at my 15" MBP screen.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and recovered. Really hope I'm not getting glaucoma or something.

I had this weird double vision thing yesterday while working. I couldn't focus and the keyboard split into two.
Do you wear glasses? If you do take them off while you work.
I think it has to do more with the frequency the monitor is putting out.

I can't see shit without my glasses, though. Not unless I get 6 inches away from my screen, which I have to believe would worsen the problem.

I know what it is, I've read up on it. I mainly want to know if anyone here has experienced it, and if it ever got better.

Actually reading the wiki article now, utopian. The word "temporary" is the best news I've heard all week.

I thought I had what you had at one point, then found out it was just a slight eye infection caused by dry eyes and rubbing them. Things would get blurry with double vision every now and then. Maybe you're staring at the screen for too long and your eyes are getting dry. Maybe look into some eye drops.

I don't wear glass Gramme, but I occasionally have the same symptoms that you described. I would strongly recommend about every half-an-hour or so to the following... Try to focus your sight on something different from your display: i.e.(wall art, telephone, glass of water, etc...) By focusing on different objects both close and far, you not only strengthen your eyesight but you also relax the nerves in your eyes. This has done wonders for me and was recommended by my optometrist. I hope this helps, have a great weekend.

yeah man, big reason why i ditched the laptop and got a big imac always reminding myself to lean back and relax instead of doing the lean-forward hand on chin stance. if i can, i always try to put pencil to paper so i'm not staring at a screen all day. seems to help, while improving your drawing & concepting skills.

I think a good 24" monitor will help a lot. I wouldn't fork out the cash for something bigger right now unless I could find a good refurbished one. I also turned down the brightness of my laptop monitor. I read that if it looks like a light source, it's too bright.
Between me and one other freelancer, my office spent 219 hours working for just one client in March. I had other things going on as well. Guess that's my tipping point.
The wife was playing outside with our boys this morning. I wanted nothing more than to join them, but had to stay indoors and work.
I'm in that really awkward stage where I'm busier than I can handle, but don't have quite enough work coming in to carve off bigger chunks for delegation to freelancers (or a full-time hire). I thought about finding an intern, but in my experience they require a lot of hand-holding, they work super slow, and just I don't have time for that.

not working weekends helps.

gramme, my man, sounds like you need to slow down a bit and raise your rates.
- gramme0
Well, I've actually been thinking about lowering my rates, tbh. I've had several people tell me in the past year that my rates are too high for St. Louis. I've also lost several bids that I think I might have won if my rates were a few ticks lower. Having those projects would have amounted to more income, which might have prevented situations like the current one.
- you'll always hear that, do ever negotiate in situations like that?doesnotexist
- I always try to. Maybe I'm just not great at negotiating.gramme

^ clarification: a few colleagues (other designers) have told me my rates might price me out of the market for much of this area.
People on the coasts think my rates are great. Too bad I only have one such client.
- from the look of your work, you deserve the higher rates.doesnotexist

staring at a light all day can't be good for your eyes.
My eyes actually dry out a lot.
