I have a site where we needed a temporary splash page for a few weeks giving visitors a youtube video with some extra information. You know, the usual thing with a button that says "continue to the site."
I didn't think much of it, but I simply renamed the index file index2.php and then built the index.html splash page.
Two problems:
First, any hard links to the index page will know take a visitor to the temp splash page. Not a big deal.
The bigger problem is that some bloggers and journalists are writing about the site and I've seen a few linking to index2.php. This is totally fine for now, but index2.php won't exist forever.
What's a better solution for creating a short term splash page? Some kind of redirect in your htaccess? or....?
