anybody have recommendations with a good 3D software for the Mac?
I have some experience with 3d studio max so something witha similar workflow would be nice.
i mainly use cinema 4d these days. but mostly for tvcs. maya is probably more advanced and has built-in camera tracking negating the need for boujou, syntheyes, etc
cool, yeah don't need anything crazy, mostly for motion graphics as a companion to AE
Cinema 4D all the way. It's the most advanced one you can use aside from Maya. Maya is so complex that you shouldn't even bother trying to learn it unless you use it everyday. C4D is something you can come back to a week later and not be lost. There's a large and growing community, resources, plugins and answers to help you out. Go through Lynda.com and you'll be up and running within a few months and a few projects depending on your needs. Best of luck.
C4D - especially if you want something to work with AE. The latest version now let's you import AE files, while the last few versions have only let you go the other way (export a AEP with all the lights / nulls for compositing...).
regarding workflow, c4d is much more akin to maya than Max and if you've got after effects anywhere in your pipeline, c4d is most definitely the most integrated with it.
there's maya but cost a hell of alot.
as you can see, there's a few people using C4D.
