The richest 62 people own as much as half the world population.
62 people have more wealth than a combined 3.5 billion people.
- Ok i agree thats a problem but if the govt takes it you know they will enrich themself. Whats the solution?Hayoth
- There is no real thing called "free markets" and "capitalism" it's called "Corporatocracy"!utopian
- The rich will get richer and the poor will always get poorer...until there is a real uprising and revolution.utopian
- No worries...the people are pacified by their: iPhones, Facebook, Alcohol, Weed, Pop music, etc...utopian
- @Hayoth: Instead of spewing platitudes, look at the numbers. There is no govt as rich as these people. 62 people means about 1 person per 4 nations.nb
- You can take the cynical view that all governments are corrupt, but at least w/ democratic govts we have a chance at getting the money back.nb

The Arab spring, five years on
THERE were six Arab countries in which massive peaceful protests called for hated rulers to go in the spring of 2011. Other than Tunisia, none of the uprisings came to a happy end. Libya and Yemen have imploded, their central states replaced in whole or part by warring militias, some backed by foreign powers, some flying the flags of al-Qaeda or Islamic State. Egypt is now yet more autocratic, in some ways, than when the protests began. And Syria has descended into an abyss. Half its cities lie in ruins, much of its fertile land has been abandoned; millions have been displaced within the country, millions more have fled beyond it; hundreds of thousands have died; there is no end in sight.

Presented with an additional category of 'unknowns,' the 'unknown knowns,' the disavowed beliefs and suppositions we are not even aware of adhering to ourselves. Rumsfeld responds, "If it were a fact, it wouldn't be called intelligence."
