Has anyone here bought a grey import Canon camera? Any issues with them or would you suggest staying well away?
I'm wanting a camera fairly quickly and I know there is going to be some form of update to the 7D area so I don't want to go and spend 1300+ and lose so much value if I sell it in a few months.
The imports look about the same price as 2nd hand ones on ebay yet some import companies are offering 3 year warranties, which I know are not great but hopefully better than nothing.
Any advice would be great - cheers.

Avoid avoid avoid, the warranties normally mean shit. Know some people who have done this without problems but also heard some horror stories. If you really need your equipment that bad, don't be a cheapskate.
Bodies hold their value surprisingly well (provided you look after them) in my experience

bodies do hold their price, as long as there is nothing new announced to replace them..
i sold my 40D about 2 weeks before they announced the 60D .. I managed to get an extra $230 for it..
that said, i also then had to wait until they released the 60D, which then ended up waiting until they released the 7D.. so i was with out a camera a few months..

Most of my stuff has been bought used or demo or refurb.... I did have a Nikon D7000's shutter die recently, but probably due to my over-use and it can happen to anyone...The repair was less than the difference between list price and what I paid anyway... Having a backup is a good thing...
