If you were to buy used Mac from a friend which one would you pick (for video editing):
2008 Mac Pro Duo Quad Core 2.8 GHZ - 16GB Ram - OS 10.6 w/ Adobe 5.5 Premium suite - $1500
2009 Mac Pro Dual Quad Core 2.26 GHZ - 16GB Ram - OS 10.6 w/ Adobe 5.5 Premium suite - $1500
2011 iMac 27" Quad Core 3.4 GHZ i7 - 16GB Ram - OS 10.7 w/ Adobe 5.5 Master Collection - $2000

I really wish you folks could help a brother out - cause the brother is a bit clueless when it comes to specs.

The newer one will be out of date later.

look, its the same thing as always.
the newer, faster, better then machine, the nicer it will be to use for editing and rendering..honestly tho, the i7 will blow the other 2 out of the water..
you just need to understand there is no upgrade options.. no external cards, no extra drives..
if you are ok with that.. imac is win.
i do all my stuff on a imac.. and its fine
- also the newer the machine, the longer it will be useful for you.. hell.. $1500 for a 4 year old computer is a jokeautoflavour
- autoflavour0
also, you will need a monitor with the other 2.. so its not really $1500 then.. its $1500 + monitor and you will be hard pressed to find a 27inch monitor for $500
go the imac

mountain lion just about made my older mac pro obsolete, so, i would go for the imac maybe.
but you can be smart about it y using ebay's filters to determine if the pricing is fair enough...

i7 is tons faster for some things....

also.. you can get it refurbished from apple directly for $1869.. it has less ram, but you get 1 year warranty on it..
also, the whole software aspect to this deal isnt really in the equation, as there is no way those prices include legitimate copies of that software..
- actually it's from a post house he used to own so those are legit versions.pr2

if it were me, and I had $2k to blow, I'd prob get a 13-inch 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 for $1500, monitor if needed and an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription... then you're right up-to-date as best you can be.
- or an apple certified refurbed one, even betterprophetone

for $1530 if you want some serious hardware. only thing its missin stock is an ssd
- the fact that is called CYBURRPOWWERRR.. is the main reason i wont buy thisautoflavour
- CYYYYYYBBURRRRRR!autoflavour
- good hardware, but rather build with this case. http://www.silversto…deathboy
- really never buy pre built. all manufacturers cut corners somewhere or anotherdeathboy

for me, if i'm buying used equipment it better be a great deal or have some sort of warranty. shit happens. i got a fresh 12" powerbook G4 once and plled it out of the box all fresh, booted it up and the screen was showing the image tilted. brokend out of the box. so warranties are good.
a budget of $2k = buy new stuff, imo

$1500 includes a legit 5.5 license? that you can transfer into your name? surely that's worth over $2000 alone?
am i missing something here?

used mac is like a used Ferrari

For video editing, you need a fast computer and screen.
The 2011 iMac 27" Quad Core 3.4 GHZ i7
- Has both!
FYI... there is no such thing as an iMac Quad Core @ 3.4 --- The highest Apple shows are @ 3.1...
