I love ExpressionEngine but has anyone had a chance to play with this yet - Craft by Pixel & Tonic: http://buildwithcraft.com

I have no reason to use anything other than ExpressionEngine for client work. That said, I hate Twig, which would be a major detractor for me in thinking about using Craft.

I remember these guys from their work on EE plugins. Strange how the site says absolutely nothing about the CMS or why it's good.

I have a sandbox base install up and running locally - havent even touched the system or really read over the docs yet just riding the hype. BUT they have 'fixed' alot of issues with I have with EE upgrading and such that I am sure will trickle down to other portions of my workflow...
Keeping dev environments straight and updating EE core all the while using version control has proven to be difficult and time consuming... My real hope for this would be taking all the great stuff about EE and fixing all the little gotcha's

RE: "BUT they have 'fixed' alot of issues with I have with EE upgrading.."Have you used Updater? Bloody hell it simplifies things:
http://www.devdemon.com/updater/…And keep track of plugins with:
http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/devo…Both of these have really simplified tracking and updating installs.

I played with it when it was blocks. Don't love the twig templating engine. I really love expression engine though and the plug ins that pixel and tonic build. Hoping it will be good for smaller sites since I think ee is over kill for.
- Ohhhh! Blocks. I remember that. Didn't realize the lineage.ETM

RE: "Hoping it will be good for smaller sites since I think ee is over kill for."You try MojoMotor for any smaller sites? Seems like it was sort of DOA.

Ok, so I have a stupid simple problem that I can't figure out. I'm trying to install Craft, I uploaded all the files and created the DB, but I can't install because my domain.com/admin/ says:
"Craft can’t connect to the database with the credentials in craft/config/db.php."
I have no problem connecting to the database using Sequel Pro. I've also tried this three times now (on three different domains). Can't find any help online related to this issue.

can't find ANY help online? ;)
- Any luck with any of those StackExchange solutions to your prob?ETM
- I've gone through them all!nb
- I hate to even ask the question because I know it's one with too many potential answers... But I feel like I'm going nuts! Why doesn't this work?!?!nb
- Worst part is I've had similar issues I had actually resolved, but the fucking browser cached the error even on a hard refresh.ETM
- Can you post a cleaned version of your config file?ETM

Can you post a cleaned version of your config file?

<?php
/**
* Database Configuration
*
* All of your system's database configuration settings go in here.
* You can see a list of the default settings in craft/app/etc/config/defaults/db.php
*/return array(
// The database server name or IP address. Usually this is 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1'.
'server' => 'localhost',/**
* The database server port.
*/
'port' => '3306',// The database username to connect with.
'user' => 'nathan_user',// The database password to connect with.
'password' => 'REDACTED',// The name of the database to select.
'database' => 'nathan_craftdb',// The prefix to use when naming tables. This can be no more than 5 characters.
'tablePrefix' => 'craft',
/**
* The charset to use when creating tables.
*/
'charset' => 'utf8',/**
* The collation to use when creating tables.
*/
'collation' => 'utf8_unicode_ci');
- Like I said, I've had no problem connecting to the database with Sequel Pro. This is not a MAMP install, it's on a web server.nb
- Nothing jumps out at me...ETM
- Yeah, it's pretty straightforward.nb
- That's what's so maddening.nb
- One thought I had: In order to connect to the DB via Sequel Pro, I had to use the "Remote MYSQL" feature in cpanel. I wonder if I need to allow a special IP fornb
- accessing the DB from the browser...? I mean, it seems that it would be localhost 127.0.0.1, which is already on the list of remote connections.nb
- You mean whitelisting your local IP? That shouldn't be relevant for accessing the Craft CP because yes, the php files are accessing localhost.ETM
- Are you moving from local to an actual web server (remote host with a domain etc)?estetic
- No, I'm not moving it. Just setting it up on a web server so I can learn it.nb

I'm uploading v2.5, we'll see what happens.

Bah, still nothing. Obviously I'm missing something...
It's so frustrating to think I'm trying to use this CMS and I can't even get the damn thing installed. Makes me feel like an idiot!
- nb0
Is it possible that it's because I'm creating the database using the web host cpanel?
I just registered a new domain, for the purpose of testing this, and did everything again.... SAME PROBLEM. ugh.

Just a random idea (I know nothing about Craft CMS) but are you sure the table prefix is correct? Usually it's set when you create the database.
