so the World Cup is coming up and I'll be trying to promote this project from now right through to july. I have a bunch of plans but some of you might have more experience promoting this sort of thing so any advice or ideas would be nice, let me know

Just wanted to post an update... the doc is still in production, there's going to be a short version as well as a completed 60min version released this spring before the 2018 World Cup.
I just released some music I made for it. If you like afrobeat or african guitar styles you might like this,
Will be more music released next year like brasilian and latin sort of stuff.
- i also have a blog going here, https://oneworldcup.…lodef

So as I was saying its later than I would have hoped, I probably would have punched myself if I knew I wouldn't have finished until now but its not that big a deal. Its always been apart of the plan to do most of promotion after the World Cup this year anyway. Its something I will be promoting with practically everything I do as a filmmaker and a musician for a while yet. It really is about more than the World Cup anyway.
This is the first project of this scale I've ever completed so its been a very formative learning experience. Everything from the shooting to the editing, the music production and the little bit of marketing I've attempted was all about the learning curve. I have a lot more stuff in the works so the experience will all be applied.
Its actually still not finished, there are some rough parts where the editing and music still need some work. Vimeo has a fancy 'replace video' feature so I will be making some changes and making the music, audio mix and editing better. If you are reading this please watch it and let me know what you think. I trust your opinions here, it would be appreciated.

I'm interested to know what its like in other cities around the world during the games. Most cities are pretty multicultural but I think they all have a different dynamic, like I doubt there are parades of Brazilians wondering around London or Berlin banging drums but I could be wrong. It'd be interesting to see. Toronto has a pretty open approach to its diversity so people tend to take to the streets.

yeah exactly that was a part of the point. Downtown Canada is supposed to be a big grey boring grid but I wanted to show another side of it a lot of people don't realize is there.

Dope that you made a movie, shame it was based in one of the countries and cities furthest from Football culture ever.

This will be released next week. Its a bit later than I had intended, obviously with the World Cup on I want to take advantage of the timing but I didn't want to release something I wasn't comfortable with so I've taken a little extra time. A big challenge with this has been to figure out how to present the movie as a documentary on its own just for what it is, because ultimately its about a lot more than just the World Cup, so once the hype has died down a bit it might make a little more sense.

I'm still looking for something for the site but I think I might just stay with what I have and alter it a bit. Everything I find is too complicated and/or corporate for what I need.

Thats a good question, I thought about this quite a bit. Main reason being that its not really about Toronto at all, it just provides the setting. Toronto happens to be the perfect place for a doc like this.
Another reason is that I want to create a certain suspension of disbelief so that the audience feels as though they are being shown some exotic locale they've never seen or heard about before. Like a lot of those travel documentaries that take you somewhere new and interesting.
I figured if I made it obviously Toronto Ontario Canada it would put off a lot of the potential audience. I also want people who are familiar with the place to be able to see a side they haven't seen or thought of before in this way.
- interesting, although you may consider a quick mention just to set the scene. it seemed weird that you were trying to keep it a secretJG_LB

- I'm definitely not trying to keep it a secret the location is meant to be revealed subtly.lodef
- tough to talk about it without the doc being released yet. There's a lot of details about Toronto and Canadalodef
