Hey there film directors, mograf writers, and anyone else who might be able to help!
I'm trying to find the name of the motion tracking technique used in this video:
Its like a single point of focus that stays still but the rest of the frame moves around. It must have a name, or if there are other examples that'd be awesome!
THANKS

Do you mean something like this Radiohead video?
- The bike helmets lead me to suspect this is done with Go Pro cameras. You can get arm mounts for those.CyBrainX
- it was, it was done by Adam Buxton, really simple set up done years ago :)BaskerviIle
- this is way cooler than anything you could do with a tracker.monNom
- in my opinion these 2 are very different techniques, neither is cooler or worse, they are differentMiguex
- also this was done buy guy ritchie way before radiohead :)Miguex

Yeah, looks like the original shot they moved the cam around a lot, and then stabilized it afterwards.

Yes these are the right examples but I wondered if there was a special name for the technique – so i can make myself sound clever!

Hello DaveO motion tracking is perfectly fine, it is an umbrella term. Because you are analyzind the motion of the picture wether you stabilize or follow an object using tracking points.
It's nice I quite like the video although it makes me feel sick, however lots of this can be done by simply enlarging the picture and making a cross in the centre of the screen and picking your focus point and keep the spot locked to that, it's a quick and actually very useful way to do it. Other stuff can be done by wearing the camera on a certain part or locking it to an object that is being moved as well, plenty ways to achieve things in film thats the exciting part of the industry trying to work out ways to do different things :) good luck.

Some people call this Match Move...
- match move is more like matching an animated asset to a moving imagefeel

Match move is not the correct term, match move is to apply the same movement of an object onto another object.

This is what they are doing
But if you shoot in high res, you can crop your 16:9 composition so people will never know that the image is moving all over the place and will get a sense that the object in question is still.
I would never recommend shooting in 4k, EVER because of the implications and limitations on rendering time and workflow (in my opinion) are not worth the slight image improvement, however.. in this particular case I would shoot it in 4k so you have tons of room to move and crop.
