I know there are some dj/producers on here and was hoping you guys could point me in the direction of some good resources for learning Logic, specifically how to make house/techno. I've been a dj for a long time and have decided to try and take a shot at making my own tracks. I'm a complete newb at this so any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I don't know anything about Logic. I'm a Live user myself.
If you're looking to make your own tracks you're going to need to learn about plugins. I'm guessing Logic probably comes with some synths, drum machines, etc. That's where I would start.
There's a local company called sonic academy that has some good paid track breakdown/walkthrough videos from house/ dance acts using logic. all quite commercial though.
Live is amazing for constructing tracks + performing, Logic is the best all round DAW with possibly the steepest learning curve. I've been using it since v3 and still come across features i've never used before.
There's like 850 million Logic Tutorial videos on YouTube. You can learn everything you need to know there, for free.
There's also useful stuff here:
Also, this site is good if you have any questions:
You can do absolutely amazing stuff in Logic. It comes with so many instruments, effects, synths, drummers, etc.
It's really astonishing.
Thanks for the tips everyone.
Yep - YouTube is full of Logic tutorials - Pro X was a major upgrade so some of them may not be as relevant.
Good luck - I made the move to Logic recently and absolutely love it when I get the chance to use it.
To follow on from above if you have used a DAW like Reason before the jump is v.easy (although there is of course loads of detail to learn as you need it) - but the principles are v.similar.
Also - find a tutorial on youtube that shows a track being made from start to finish - theres a deep house one somewhere. Even if the trackisn't that great you learn so much going along with the tutoiral.
