Clients eyes glaze over the moment you say "algorithm" or "monthly average search volume"
I'd like to add some points to my list above:
- Use HTTPS everywhere (SSL)
- Use the canonical URL Tag
- Create sitemap.xml
- Upload sitemap.xml, best via google webmaster tools
- Use Google PageSpeed https://developers.google.com/sp…
- Get a powerful server for fast loading times
- Use Google Analytics to track your success and see your deficits
SEO is such a waste of time.
This is coming from someone who developed our company's SEO strategy, pitches it to clients, and has to implement and track it on an ongoing basis.
I am the snakeoil salesman.
The amount of time, energy, and money that is invested in SEO could be better used in other ways.
- Good SEO doesn't take much time to implement, some firms may push it to the limit unnecessarily,moldero
- when that extra time/effort could be put towards Social Media which is just as important, if not more depending on the clientmoldero
- your right, it does need to be followed up, but if its setup right initially, the clients primary focus for SEO is the new content they put upmoldero
- and if their in a saturated niche, its all about finding those unsaturated sub-nichesmoldero
- SEO's not a scam, it's just common sense. Although a lot of people flat-out lie about how useful they are in this sphere..detritus
@moldero theres no evidence to suggest removing www will increase your rankings. there was a roumer last month that https would be viewed more favourably but no evidence to support this either. for social to work you need opengraph and twitter cards in your head otherwise it doesnt hook the campaigns together with your site

^ If you have done most of the points here correctly and you still don't get some results then
- your site is only a week old, let it grow
- your content is written very badly
- your competition is very hard and full of $

no. devs will NEVER implement SEO correctly... theres too much emphasis on completing the task as quick as possible and not enough emphasis on doing things right... theres more to technical SEO than meta data and keywords
google doesnt use keywords anymore.
if your using WP use the yoast plugin.
I dominate SEO's with that shit.
1 of my sites just got sitelinks the other day.
also, kill your www, use only http:// or https://
the goog sees using www and http:// and https:// as 3 urls (weird yeah) so force http:// on your url using .htaccess
in coming and outgoing links are a big deal
so are internal links (like wiki does)
intergrate you site with social sites like FB, G+ <ESPECIALLY G+ (because google duh), and tw'A'tter and tumblr, within these networks, the sheeples will share that shizzle helping you create mass incoming links to your site.
googlewebmaster tools is your friend
mekk, I've done it all. I've had success with SEO.
I've created the strategy, directed the copywriters, run site audits, changed the code, changed the content, implemented keywords, performed link building, worked in social, did local and national tracking, bought the SSL.
Every major phase and every tiny detail, there isn't anything with SEO that I haven't done and touched. So this is coming from someone who is incredibly experienced in SEO.
And it can get results.
But I still feel like it's a waste of time when it comes to answering the question "Where should we put our marketing dollars?"
- Create Title
- Create Keywords
- Create Description
- Avoid Duplicated Content at all cost: Do not put your "SEO Text" under every page, rediret abc.com to www.abc.com, don't let it run parallel.
- H1 Heading should come and only one on a page
- Make correct use of HTML-Tags (use a paragraph (p) for text, don't just put it in a div, hierarchal use of headings)
- Use enough Text (repeating your keywords in a useful way, a lot of articles here for your text guys to read)
- Use Alt-Tags for every image
There is so much detail in every point i've mentioned but these are the most important things to check imho. Have in mind that google rewards content created for human beings, not for what we think of google robots. Do not believe the 2000's rules of "minumum 200-250 words @ 2-5%key word rate", do your thing as best as you can and create valuable content for your human users.
