New job just tasked me with something i've never had to set-up a file for. I have a call out to fedex(kinkos) and a signarama to hear about options.

Currently have a 30" wide banner of this ^ sort and im being asked to design one that's "at least 8' wide".
Any idea what these run price wise or what else they could be called? The two reps i talked to acted like it was going to be a lot of work on their end to find their available options. I've never set up a print file for this size output and i was hoping to get from the shops what kind of formatting i needed for the source file. Set-Up and indesign file for 96"x72" at 300dpi is my best guess as where to start. Kinda lost on where to begin with this one.

Funny... I am working on designing a couple retractable banners from FedEx as we speak...

And I used Mod Displays for a large 8' banner last year.

I've never seen a retractable banner stand 8' wide. I've used multiple retractables side by side to achieve widths like this. Maybe they mean a pop-up fabric wall? I use Duo Display for this type of stuff...They have templates and specs for all their products.

Thanks a ton organicgrid! The ones i'm seeing on mod displays that go "big" are just three of the 30" panels next to each other. Have you found anything that is a solid sign that isn't broken up into multiple pop-ups?

these guys go up quick, and are inexpensive.

Not design related but, if you can, try to get a hands on demo of it. I did one of these as a project once, and it was completely unstable. The smallest little breeze would blow it over.

^ Price point on something like this is amazing but it looks horrifically unstable, like the AC in a conference hall would be enough to be a concern.

http://www.retractablebannersdir… Found these guys, but am i just to big of a design critic(snob) to think that anyone with this web presence and product sample imagery could really produce a high quality product. With the panache the ModDisplays guys have with their examples its tough to look at a site like this and think i'd get similar quality.
Is this a ridiculous line of thinking?
