Is it possible the reason there's this idea that Trump gets away with everything is basically just because he was President and you can't be charged while in office?
Yes politically he survived scandal after scandal, his supporters kept following him no matter what. But there's no reason to think that if Trump broke the law at this point he won't just go to prison, possibly for a very long time.
