Hi guys, We just launched an indiegogo campaign for our project.

Is an app that allows organizations and restaurants raise money for local causes by selling meal vouchers. The organization will get the money of the sales and the restaurant will get a tax exemption receipt plus the extra money for the visitors, and we will charge a percentage.

Any feedback, critics, memes and all QBN blessing will be welcomed.

    Thanks in advance

Just an opinion, but a 25% take off the gross donation seems steep considering that you're asking for your dev and launch costs to be crowdfunded. There's presumably also transaction fees associated with the purchase of a voucher, no? Sorry if I missed anything in the link, but it kind of reads like by the time my donation gets to the organization, about 30-35% of it would be soaked up in costs associated with your site and with giving. And then there are the (understandable) admin costs that all charities, ngo's etc. have - so take another 5%-35% depending on the org.

Curious also what threshold a restaurant might have for this? Tax receipts are only attractive up to a point - seems like they could lose here as well.

Personally I just donate to causes I care about and support social enterprises that I feel a connection to - so this wouldn't be much use to me, but maybe it will lift the barrier some people need to donate.

    • At this point we will keep 25% plus 1$ transaction fee. But is open to discuss with the organization and depends if we do more work for them.Salarrue

Well, there are different ways to see it. Based in the way we have worked out with the organizations is that they understand that for them will be an extra income source without any involvement of their personnel after creating a profile. 25% is not that much when you consider that the median in Quebec at least is almost 40%. There are events like golf tournaments and galas that keep up to 60% including the rent of the places and other costs. We provide a service to the organizations to showcase a campaign and do other tasks for them that are part of the overall strategy and service to them.

For the restaurant is the same, they will get exposure and build engagement, client flow plus the tax exception receipt. Each big food chain has a donation bucket in their cash counter, is not a foreign concept for them.

As per the user, if you like to go to a "X" restaurant, you will spend the same amount by buying a voucher from the app, you will get your meal and an organization will get a donation. You will have a profile to showcase the areas you have contributed without spending more than you usually spend in the restaurant.

I am like you, I prefer to give to the source.

We have raised 50$ so far :)

The app is almost finished, but we will need a boost to really apply and test the features we want to develop.

    • It seems like you guys have really thought about the market in Quebec, and best of luck with it!ben_
