- If memory serves, it was one of the last things I stole during the pre-adolescent thievery adventure I embarked on for a year or two.Nairn

I relish going to bed early (11.30).
- that's not early, that's late. i go 9:30-10pm and i'm probably younger than you.NBQ00
- Jesus. I don't think I've gone to bed that early (without some reason) in .. over thirty years.Nairn
- I don't recall the last time I went to bed on the same day I awoke - I'm always a 2-3am bedtime person... up around 8 / 9am.PonyBoy

You go to the movies with your wife...and she spends the last half an hour of the movie crossing her legs and bouncing on her seat trying not to wet her pants! She had a glass of wine beforehand and 2 during the movie...so not great for the old bladder! She didn't want to miss any of the movie!

A younger woman standing next to me on the train today was wearing a Stone Roses shirt, worn out jeans and chuck taylors.
When I commented to her that I liked her shirt she responded. "Thanks we're having a flash back 80's dress up day at work today".
Then I realized that's pretty much the same outfit I've been wearing for the past 30 years.- lolmonospaced
- Yeah. The Dream of the 90s is still strong in my closet.nocomply

So I've been thinking about this for a while now...
I went to a show a few weeks ago to this this band called PUP. Some of you on here know them. They're totally rad.
They show was nuts. Everyone knew all the words to the songs on their new record which just came out a few months ago. There was pushing. There was screaming. There was dancing. There was crowdsurfing. There wasn't moshing though. Maybe that isn't cool anymore (and if you ask me it was always dumb and lame, but whatever.) But most importantly, people were fucking passionate about the music because it was great.
I went by myself because I really wanted to see this band and I'm too old to find friends to go to a show with on a weeknight. When I looked around most people were visibly younger than me and at a different place in their lives. I'm definitely at the top end of their fanbase in terms of age.
I hadn't been to a show that wild in years, but I remember plenty of shows like that in my teens and 20s.
I'm left with a lot of questions I've been struggling with.
* There's probably a reason why I haven't been to a show like that in years, right?
* Is it time to pass the torch of punk rock to the younger generation?
* Are all of the bands I grew up with just legacy acts now?
* Do people past their early 30s make amazing and significant music?
* Am I too old for this shit?I don't have any answers, other than the certainty that I am, in fact, becoming old.
- I go to shows by myself all the time. It's cheaper than getting a baby sitter so the wife can join. Plus she's not into the louder punk shows anymore.fooler
- The last fun show like that that wasn't a "legacy" act was Mike Krol. Everyone knew every word, slam dancing, crowd surfing but in the nicest polite way.fooler
- I got into the pit for one song before I started to cramp up... Signs I'm getting old!fooler
- Yeah same here. My wife isn't into most of the bands I like and babysitters are expensive!nocomply
- If you like the music, go to the gig. If the music's good, the kids shouldn't be too annoying.Fax_Benson
- people I know are going to nostalgia gigs featuring bands who haven't done anything for 20 yrs. I find the thought totally depressing. I want to hear new stuffFax_Benson
- *within reasonFax_Benson
- I'm just the opposite. Who wants to hear the new Pixies music?fooler
- By 'new stuff' I meant new acts. In the hope that you see the 'new Pixies'Fax_Benson
- I’m always in the pit. I’m too deaf to hear the music so have to get close to read lips.BH26
- I'm also often one of the oldest dude in the venue when I go to shows... and my gf always want to go first row and i feel like this is not my place anymoreBennn
- and I too have a lot of questines about musicBennn

So this other, kinda related thing I was thinking of what how misogynistic the culture of punk rock that I grew up in actually was.
I see so many women in awesome new bands now. It's great, but where were they in the 90s? Probably not making music because it was a tough scene for them.
Is it a sign I'm getting old, or a sign that times have changed. I'm guessing both.
- *was hownocomply
- How's got the 10.5?fooler
- "who's" dammitfooler
- Punks give a shit about misogynism, manOBBTKN
- punk in the 90s? as i recall in the "slightly earlier" days of punk women were more than welcome....renderedred
- Siouxsie, Nina Hagen, Patti Smith, The Slits, Blondie, etc...renderedred
- I'm with you renderedred. I was too young/naive to know most of those bands back then. I do now. But it's weird how there weren't many women in 90s punk.nocomply
- Of course there's exceptions, like Sleater-Kinney and others. But a lot of the lyrics from old songs in that era make me cringe.nocomply

I've never used an emoji or facebook. Just had to do some social media graphics for a client using both. Didn't have a clue.
Also ballsed up a potential gig by not knowing how to use the video conference app they set up the interview on.

I jumped a fence to save roughly 2 minutes of walking.
Did NOT "nail" the landing.
Bruised/cracked rib.
No running or cycling for a few weeks.

I am going to one up idealist here.
Three weeks ago, I spontaneously decided to see a show. There’s a mosh pit, of course. It’s that kind of show. I figure why not hang out by the pit, seems fun, done it for 25 years now. Get pushed into the pit, god forbid. Get pushed and very u.n. gracefully try to remain by balance, bending my right foot so far, the fibula snaps.
The story continues, but I’ll leave it at this:
Countless trips to doctors, dozens of Oxis, an MRI, 6 casts and a steel implant later, here I am feeling old af, regretting my youthful spontaneity.- Best pit experience was around 1996 I took about two or three steps walking above the pit. I think it was Filter.HijoDMaite
- I've been thinking about the logistics of your experience, Hijo. Please do tell, did you launch from stage onto the pit or were you suspended above the pit?dasohr
- Also Filter was highly underrated. Still is.dasohr
- lesson learned. hope you will be better soon!api
- haha i believe it was regular floating on my back and then found the opportunity to stand.HijoDMaite
- Damn. I’m listening to the short bus album right now. It aged well, so heavy.HijoDMaite
- Filter was great until that Take a Picture songfooler

Apparently I like jazz now...
- ha, I found myself listening to an apparently very well-known Jazz tune a few weeks back and uncomfortably realising I thought it was excellent... :\Nairn
- .. I still think most jazz is arsehole music.Nairn

Yesterday decided to do some pull-ups, chin-ups, dips, something I didn’t do for a few months, because of a back pain that wouldn’t go away (apparently working out with resistance bands helped a lot). Today I can’t raise my arms over my shoulders without groaning in pain...
