China construction... faling apart a little there:
- They also go around the world with their "Belt and Road Initiative" building shoddy stuff then billing the host countries with debt for crappy work.grafician
- yep... well this is what happens when you have a 'cultural' revolution and a wholesale brain drain, followed up but a big dose of corruption.shapesalad
- For them, hundreds of people dying is nothing, but if 300 people died in Europe because of shoddy infrastructure work - let's say in Germany with the recent flografician
- ...floods, the entire EU will change policy overnight and we do.
While in China the cost of human life is nothing, they're like scum.grafician - Study their history, they have some amazing inventions then mountains of human sorrow. They're the closest we will ever get to an "hostile alien civilisation"grafician
- Just wait until China's mega-tall skyscrapers start collapsing all over their country. It's only a matter of time.utopian
- ^That's nothing, they leaked a deadly virus onto the world and covered it up and nobody blinked - yetgrafician
- Trust me when I tell you that there is a lot of pent-up rage against China in the USA. It's only a matter of time before the sleeping giant awakes.utopian
- Rage against China as a people is not right, rage against a way of doing things around there is another thinggrafician
- "Rage against China" sounds like a good band name.shapesalad

"For First Time, Half of Americans Favor Defending Taiwan If China Invades"
"2021 Chicago Council Survey data show a majority of Americans support a range of US policies towards Taiwan: recognition as an independent country, inclusion in international organizations, and a US-Taiwan free trade agreement."
- They should as losing Taiwan would mean a swift end to the developed world economiesgrafician
- I love Taiwan and on the surface all those things sound great but a tenuous peace is better than war, no?mandomafioso
- Chyna could not stand a kinetic war, no communist country can. A cyber war, economic or cold war on the other hand...grafician
- Suppose they need a new wee war to themselves.PhanLo
- If there is a war it will be because of PRC. Taiwan doesn't pose a threat to them.yuekit

Is the world going insane? Seems like it.
An article penned by a virtually unknown blogger, Li Guangman (李光满), and shared across scores of websites, has prompted speculation that China is on the brink of new political movement.
“This change will wash away all the dust, and the capital market will no longer be a paradise for capitalists to grow rich overnight. The cultural market will no longer be a paradise for effeminate stars, and the press will no longer be a place for the worship of Western culture.”

Why AUKUS is welcome in the Indo-Pacific
The saying "every success sows the seeds of its own failure" comes to mind. For the past couple years the Xi government has been telling the world how powerful China is...crushing protests in Hong Kong, constantly flying military planes over Taiwan, fighting at the border with India, economic warfare with Australia.
And this probably makes for great politics within China itself where the government has created a hypernationalist mindset. But now you see nearly every other major country in the region wants protection against China.
- I've been saying this for a decade or more - China will be kept in check by all those around them. Give it time and even Russia will go back to side-eying themNairn
- The 'Anger in France' thing is funny - from what I've read, the writing's been on the wall with the Sub contract since at least the start of this year.Nairn

- +1 sted, thanks. Tho, why is that article mere minutes old when it doesn't recognise the change in Australia's stance which is now days old?Nairn
- Oh, wait. That article is from 2016. The reader mode view said differently. How odd.Nairn
- the result of a long process that I think started with this little problem :). there is an agreement between us / uk / au / france to strengthen the regionssted
- security on water. french just went meh with this deal, but they had it coming.sted
- AUKUS is just a hollow announcement at the moment. Scomo (Aus PM) is farting it from every hole because it's a nice distraction from his ton of fuck ups.MrT
- AUKUS is beyond being a hollow announcement at this stage, even if that's what your Scomo's blundered into.
Scomo, Bojo and .. Jobi lolNairn - From what I'm reading deployment of these technologies will be difficult and take time so there's some questions surrounding all this.yuekit
- I do think it's in everyone's interest to dissuade PRC from trying to invade Taiwan. That's the last thing the world needs with so many other problems to dealyuekit
- with such as climate change etc. And that's not just about balance of power today but the future balance of power, which a deal like this is intended to shape.yuekit

China's Manufacturing Weakens, as Power Cuts Threaten More Damage.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has indirectly acknowledged he is locked in a power struggle with a rival political faction backed by former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
https://www.asiasentinel.com/p/s…
Some of the speculation here probably falls under the category "conspiracy theory" but it points to the fact that the CCP is not a monolithic dictatorship, it's more like a mafia where different factions battle for control. And you might arrest the lieutenant but the top guy goes untouched...
- No surprises there then.shapesalad
- or the less conspiracy theory way of looking at it: the ccp is the gov. different fractions inside the ccp are like parties in the west.uan
- the party with most power controls the policy of the nation.uan
- Yeah I was reading this article which talks about the different factions
https://www.orfonlin…yuekit - And it is strangely remniscient of the Democratic and Republican parties in the USA, they represent different constituencies and take turns running the country.yuekit
- Reason I said like mafia is b/c there are no elections so the power struggle is about behind the scenes maneuvering. Look at how people Xi has taken down.yuekit
- shapesalad0
- don't.sted
- we're all conducting business on a thin layer. 1-2 years and most of the dependency on Chinese manufacturing will start to shrink.sted
- and this guy still remains the Alex Jones of Chinese conspiracies and overthinking about the CCP.sted
- I like how this guy makes everyone else sound absurd when he's a literal cult member.yuekit
- But yeah it seems doubtful that SARS 2 was already spreading in early 2019. Why didn't it spread out of China in that case?yuekit
- The PRC tests were more likely for the swine flu epidemic in China. A lot of people don't realize that 25% of the world's pigs died in 2019 alone due to this.yuekit
