"Prognosis
Virus May Spread Twice as Fast as Earlier Thought, Study Says"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/a…
"At the rate of spread calculated in the study, some 82% of the population would need to be immune, either via a vaccine or because they’d already had the disease, in order to stop the virus from spreading, the Los Alamos team said. Without such protection, high levels of social distancing will be needed if more than one out of five infectious people is undiagnosed, the authors said."

So yeah...the R0 is double at about 5.7 (or even more)

"Business
Michael Burry of ‘The Big Short’ Slams Virus Lockdowns in Tweetstorm
The investor, who also has an M.D., says the economic costs of the pandemic response are too high."https://www.bloomberg.com/news/a…
"Michael Burry, the doctor-turned-investor who famously bet against mortgage securities before the 2008 financial crisis, has taken to Twitter with a controversial message: lockdowns intended to contain the coronavirus pandemic are worse than the disease itself.
Government-directed shutdowns in the U.S., which led to millions of job losses and may trigger one of the country’s deepest-ever economic contractions, aren’t necessary to contain the epidemic and have disproportionately hurt low-income families and minorities, Burry argued in a series of tweets over the past two weeks. He also said some controversial treatments for Covid-19, such as the malaria drug hydroxycloroquine, should be made more widely available."

The article is very interesting, coming from this guy.

WOWOWOWOWOWWOW!
This guy!
"“This is a new form of coronavirus that emanated from a country, China, that unfortunately covered it up. That was the original sin. It transmits very easily, and within the first month it was likely all over the world. Very poor testing infrastructure created an information vacuum as cases ramped, ventilator shortages were projected. Politicians panicked and media filled the space with their own ignorance and greed. It was a toxic mix that led to the shutdown of the U.S., and hence much of the world economy.”
“In hindsight, each country should have immediately ramped up rapid field testing of at-risk groups. But as I understand it, the CDC was tasked with some of this, and botched it, and other departments were no better. The bureaucracy failed in a good number of countries. Turf wars and incompetence has ruled the day. So the political cover for that failure on the part of the technocrats and politicians is a very harsh stay-at-home policy.”'

Preliminary serology study results of 500 patients from Gangelt (one of Germany's worst effected municipalities) demonstrate IFR of 0.37
Interestingly the report also suggests that the initial viral load may dictate the severity of the infection/ outcome. ie. being exposed to a small amount of the virus or better hygiene reduces severity.
https://www.krankenhaushygiene.d…
Another study shows that deaths of "People <65 years old and not having any underlying predisposing conditions accounted for only 0.3%, 0.7%, and 1.8% of all COVID-19 deaths in Netherlands, Italy, and New York City."
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/…
So, if I average that to 1% and using an IFR of .37 - if your healthy and under 65 your chance of dying from covid-19 is something like 1 in 30,000?
Early days, but if this is all confirmed globally I imagine we'll see massive changes to lockdown procedures for <65's
- The whole Viral Load thing's been mentioned a lot over the past few weeks - makes sense, give the sort of people getting bad cases of itNairn
- Indeed. What many have said from the beginning. It’s not a death sentence to most people.monospaced
- Pfiu!grafician
- yeah, its nice to see 'best-case' scenarios backed up by testing. in the german study they are being quite conservative about the estimate.kingsteven
- the viral load/ severity thing has many implications. including variolation (the method they used to inoculate against small pox) before the vaccinekingsteven

‘So much living to do’: stories of UK's coronavirus victims
Personal details have emerged of more than 70 people who have died in the Covid-19 pandemic

Country—Cases per million of population—Deaths per million of population:
Spain—3,358—339
Italy—2,375—302
Belgium—2,301—260
France—1,804—187
Netherlands—1,348—147
UK—959—118
Switzerland—2,822—114
Sweden—959—86
Ireland—1,331—53
USA—1,420—51
Portugal—1,517—43
Denmark—1,005—43
Austria—1,498—35
Germany—1,411—31
Norway—1,152—20- Difference I'd say with the US, and perhaps I'm being overly-simplistic, is that against all those other nations, it's much bigger physically. Spread = TimeNairn
- + all these countries have functioning governments and reasonable citizens that agree with the measures introduced to curb the spread - for now at leastgrafician
- True Nairn. If you isolate just NY State it looks more like a single country. And rightly so.monospaced
- I'm so horrified by what I see in NY, as much as I know what's happened in Italy and my own country, etc. I hope this leads to massive positive change.Nairn
- reporting so different between countries... thousands of care home deaths not reported in the UK. italy and spain attributing everything.kingsteven
- You have like an eighth of our population and half of our deaths. I don't know what's going on there, but it's terrible.Nairn
- they're saying NY may be first to herd immunity. so tightly packed in and to little distancing measures too late. + pollution/ age everything going against NYkingsteven
- The US is 50 'countries'
You need to run reports on all states individuallyKrassy - @krassy - yeah, that's exactly why NY's tally is so terrible.Nairn
- @kingsteven - so NY is the first area to get to some kind of balanced normalcy with C-19 prior to immunisation?
If so, a bit scary. If not non-obvious.Nairn - Yep reporting different between countries, France also not reporting care home death, weird********
- You might find hard to believe but 1/3 New Yorkers are on some sort of welfare or disability. Many ill people live by the services so there is that.robotron3k

This is what I was talking about the other day.
"Within a period of a week or so, we're going to have a rather large number of tests that are available," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on CNN's "New Day" Friday morning.
Having antibodies to the coronavirus could mean someone is protected from getting re-infected, making such tests important for medical workers and others on the front lines fighting the pandemic.
- is this the same Dr. Fauci who doesn't like HCQ used off label and now wants to pretend some imaginary, unproven flu technology is better?robotron3k
- No. It’s the one who is a top medical professional and expert in communicable diseases just like this. The one you are thinking of is only for science deniers.monospaced
- Dr Fauci hasn’t mentioned an imaginary flu technology because none exists expert in the minds of brainwashed conservative right wing CUNTSmonospaced
