- The largest tech acquisition in history, if I’m not mistaken.nb
- By value? Don't think so.
Microsoft getting Activision Blizzard was larger for sure.grafician - Looks like is rather small acquisition: https://en.wikipedia…grafician
- But will Adobe buy Canva next? :))grafician
- Adobe are shite, everything they buy gets fucked with bloatwarePhanLo

I've got to nitpick a few of the claims Figma makes on the page that grafician shared.
1. But isn’t Adobe XD also in the cloud?
With Adobe XD, local files must be synced to Creative Cloud in order to share. Any further updates made to the local file must then be re-synced and re-shared.
(This is true, but ONLY if you work on files locally. If you work on files in the cloud from the get-go, this is a moot point. All the files my team and I use are stored in the cloud. This is pretty much a false "gotcha" from Figma. Local files aren't the only way to work...)
2. I heard Adobe XD is also building collaboration features...
Collaborating in Adobe XD is different than collaborating in Figma. In Adobe XD, you design in one place but share in another. Comments are in a separate experience, and changes from different co-editors need to be merged manually.
(Not sure what they're really trying to claim here. Yes, with XD you publish prototypes to a different file or page and you send that link to people. Sure, it would be nice for comments to appear inside the XD working environment. But the "changes from different co-editors need to be merged manually" part is confusing in the context of comments. Co-editors can all be in the in the file together and make their edits no different than how they created their work in the first place. Nothing is "merged manually."
3. But I use Photoshop and Illustrator...
Don’t stop! We believe you should use the best tool for the job. If you’re photo-editing, choose Adobe Photoshop. If you’re doing detailed illustrations, Adobe Illustrator is a no-brainer. But if you’re looking for the best tool for UX design, Figma is here for you. Plus you can easily import images and SVG code into Figma and have your cake and eat it (too).
(Great, that's fine and I get it. But for me and my team members, the beauty of XD and CC is that people can create assets in PS or Illustrator, add them to a library, edit them as needed, and they never need to go into XD for anything. None of us XD users have to import anything. Those assets are just right there in our libraries when we need them - AND updates made in PS or Illustrator sync with XD with no effort.)
- OK but that page is really old. And Adobe bought Figma. So there’s no more need to make your pointnb
- Adobe XD hasn’t been worked on in many many months because Adobe had their sights set on buying Figma. Source: friend at Adobenb

Uncle Sam to block Adobe absorption of Figma over monopoly fears
- not gonna lie. this kinda makes me happy..
i did NOT want figma to go with adobe.exador1 - yep, fuck adobehans_glib

Is it possible to export a doc with clickable / interactive elements to multi-page PDF? I've got some checkbox variants that I can't make clickable in the exported PDF. Ta.
- No.
Most probably you need to open that in InDesign and add links and stuffgrafician - Right. That's annoying. thanks thoughFax_Benson
- No.

Any good tutorials on how to prepare files for print in figma?
- actually just spent the night optimizing a 140MB PDF so the results are around 30MB so "don't do print in Figma"grafician
- the problem is with images, Figma exports full resolution so the PDFs are huge
But for print, no CMYK export so the colors are sRGBgrafician - the good news is it does encode good PDFs: https://www.figma.co…uan

- They’ve been very careful about wording: “no plans to...” is code for “we might...”. It’ll be a while. But they will integrate of course.nb
- They’ve also been very careful to be vague about the free version but clear about education. “Forever” only appears with education and it’s a separate bullet.nb

At my agency, we exclusively use XD for all digital web projects, which I've enjoyed for it's simplicity, collaboration capabilities, and ability to mentor and teach junior designers a new tool.
I've only used Figma when clients have invited me to their files. For those of you who use Figma, what are the "OMG this feature is awesome" features?
Because I'm really curious about any specific advantages Figma has, features XD doesn't have, etc. that could make their way into XD.
I love XD, despite it's downsides, all of which I have listed in an email to our rep to see what future updates will change those.
For example:
- Only the file owner (when using CC / cloud) can create and publish prototypes. That ends up being me because all UX projects start with me. If I'm not around (was on vacation recently and had to take my work laptop with because I knew I'd have to publish updates once the team was done) nobody else can publish updates.
- When using character styles, I want to see that character style highlighted in the left toolbar when I have selected text in an artboard. I am a stickler for my designers using character styles and never one-off styling text. So, it sucks when you can't see what style is in use. It's such a no-brainer feature.
- I would KILL for scroll triggers and deeper Lottie animation integration. It's great they have Lottie and video integration now, but to show clients how scrolling would trigger animations, it sucks to only be able to do that in voice-over during presentations.Any thoughts? What could you not live without in Figma that XD doesn't have at the moment?
- More like and axe vs. scalpel situation...grafician
- Simple overrides. If you bring in a button from an XD library, you have to change the text in all states. You don't in Figma.aliastime
- Also, through a plugin, we're getting more design token exports like border styles, radius, padding, etc.aliastime
- In Figma, character styles are displayed. For scrolling, we're using the Mouse enter trigger. Not perfect, but demos ok. And we Auto layout almost everything.aliastime
- I recently started using XD's stacks feature, and I'm kicking myself for not using it sooner.mg33
- XD is easy to use, but FFS why haven't they added such basic things like text editing keyboard shortcuts like all other Adobe programs?Luda

i've been dragged kicking and screaming into the figma era as well.
i have two questines:
what does it mean when i'm asked to package up a job?
how does zeplin work?- Years ago, Zeplin was used along side Sketch to give basic developer specs. It was largely made obsolete by Figma’s code panelnb
- Recently, I have seen Zeplin ads that claims they have pivoted to work with Figma. However, I don’t know any designers that uses Zeplin with Figma.nb
- cheers, will delete the account. it did seem utterly pointless, but i assumed that's because i'm an old tosser who doesn't understand the new shithans_glib
- any advice on this "packaging" request? i've just made a new file with the final versions in ithans_glib
- That’s a big question with lots of different answers depending on what you’re designing and what’s on the other side of the handoffnb
- Is it a website? App? Design system library? Iconset? Even for a just an app project there are various opinions on the best way to transfer ownershipnb
- Fax_Benson0
Figma noob question - can you flow text between text boxes like you can in adobe apps?
- Not that I know of. Figma is not great at typesetting actual contentnb
- yeah, that's becoming apparent. Thanks.Fax_Benson
- seems like a relatively easy feature add that would appeal to manyFax_Benson
- You can check the official plug-in Community, there may be something that works for younb
