Did any of you have a wank to COTD or the NSFW threads?
Hopefully no-one had their wankbank cut off.

Be shame if you couldn't smash one out of an evening, jumping between COTD and the Politics thread.

This is the most interactive the site has been in ages.

    • I'm not kink-shaming anyone, it's fairplay if you were having a chug.PhanLo

I think a much more serious problem is people mispronouncing nairn's name.

I had always imagined he was born out of a CS Lewis novel. Or his parents got confused, or something like that.

Come to think of it, how do you pronounce it? Don't tell me it rhymes with Erin?!!

    • ...with an Irish accent?grafician

@graf - Not Irish. Not really that first video (wtf?). Also, that second video is.. not wholly correct either.
      Nairn
    • Sound like she's more pronouncing English English, rather than British English - up North Rs are indeed often pronounced towards the end of words. eg. 'Bark'.Nairn
    • ..in Southern Inglish is more like 'Bahk', but I enunciate the R. Perhaps it's because I went to elocution and am not a pleb, mind.

    • Actually - the more I watch of her video, as nice as she is, the more i disagree with it. She seems to have quite a narrow perspective.Nairn

    • As someone from the states, Cairn is a word that doesn't occur here. As a word it doesn't exist here, you wouldn't see it unless you left an went to aussielandcherub
    • Therefore thats two words I've never heard pronounced. I googled an I thought I read Nairn sorta rhymed with aaron but I guess I misread.cherub

    • Yeah you can find cairns here. They're usually just markers left by hippies on trails. Sidenote: Proud to say I have a stone on Maeve's Cairn in Sligo.garbage
    • In the US, I don't think we have words that rhyme with Nairn. Weird.monospaced

I don’t care for them but I don’t want them removed, they’re a good baseline for what’s tolerated, once we remove them, what becomes the new low? And what gets removed next?

It’s a great responsible and open forum, I don’t think anything really crosses the line and if it did we flag for removal.

  • omahadesigns0

    So it's decided?

I agree with nb that one of the cool things of QBN is that it allows the good as well as the bad. And if there aren't dedicated NSFW threads, then NSFW stuff is going to start popping up in other threads without a doubt. It's fine. Leave it as it is.

    • Uhhh that’s not what I thinknb
    • You don’t agree with my views lol not sure where you got thatnb
    • you're right, it was epic_rim's post I agreed with.srhadden

    Censorship blah balh.

    It's more like this:

A beautiful neighbourhood of elegant town houses are built in the late 1800's. The owners work hard to pay for their houses and enjoy their humble lives. They have good values, morals and look after each other... The neighbourhood is desirable, liveable, it looks pleasant, calm, cared for.

    Gradually time passes...

The cost to maintain the houses rises and the residents grow old, their children move on... The houses are still valuable, young couples move in and renovate them, and the cycle continues...

Except for one house, which falls into an almost ruined state, needing a new roof, etc... it's sold at auction. To a buy-to-let builder. He sets his crew to work on it, splitting it up into bedsits. He then rents it to the council and earns a nice yield.

However the council houses the disaffected there, and the once peaceful neighbourhood starts to see an increase in anti-social behaviour. An older resident is mugged, another burgled.. etc...

    Time passes...

The young families that renovated the old houses are now old themselves... and move on... the houses are increasingly being bought up by buy-to-let landlords. Crime has increased. Graffiti tagging is everywhere. No one cares for the front gardens. There's trash blowing about and needles in the gutter...

Young couples look at the houses, but are put off by the 'vide' of the neighbourhood.

    Time passes..

Eventually, the once lovely cared for neighbourhood is simply a ghetto and there's big talk on the local news of pulling it all down and rebuilding it as social housing or selling the land off to help pay off the council deficit.

The NSFW content on QBN is like that first buy-to-let landlord.

I've known QBN since the more design focused Newstoday era.

Frankly QBN is a bit embarrassing in the last few years. Chick/butt/boob of the day / is far too frequently at the top the list in the side bar.

It puts people off, and soon qbn will be nothing but a repository of filth. Nothing to do with Design.

It's not about 'censorship'. It's about creating a good neighbourhood.

I'm guilty of posting some fairly unpleasant things in the past, opinions I normally keep to myself and disregard, and certainly wouldn't post anywhere else on the web... but when you see the NSFW content around here, somehow it 'encourages' a change in mindset.

So I'd be supper happy to see QBN be more creative industry focused.

    • "I've known QBN since the more design focused Newstoday era. "
lol, clearly not, in that case. Go have a look way back then - same as it ever was.

I support Simon but I wasn't checking COTD everyday to see if he posts something new so I really don't care about those threads and my opinion about all of this I will keep it for myself.

I use to check them, do very rarely nowadays but we need a way to let Simon show or announce a new work or session if we are interested in his work and want to support him.

Here is a little story what made me think that one day this could happen to QBN:

In the last 3-4 years a bunch of adult sites got slowly flooded with illegal content, these sites have an insane amount of professional and user-generated content from 3-5 min trailers to multiple hours of webcam recordings with semi-KYC.
Therefore it was easy to hide these materials and built a case against them. The crackdown was swift and fast, for example one of these providers got banned form various payment services despite the fact that their paid services were 100% legal and clear, others got an "easier" pass but still had to put a lot of $ on finding/filtering/removing these things and legal fees. But the damage is far more bigger than it looks.

Sooo I would lobby against any type of porn/adult content on this site what doesn't falls to the budoar/erotic photography category (no penetration, no body fluids) because it opens the gates to opportunities like the one described previously.

And yeah think like an adult: you really need this shit here when the entire internet is loaded with porn?

    • This. No interest in the soft/porn, but I do want to see artistic nudes, including more erotic ones.formed
    • It seems QBN website doesn't host any content besides our words. so perhaps that's a get out of jail ticket ?shapesalad
    • It seems you can't post behance hosted content here... so why not expand that to a blacklist of porn / trash sites?shapesalad
    • Sted, this makes about as much sense as the renaming of streets that is happening all over the USA. First the politically correct cunts had a prob with statues, cherub
    • now they've grown tired of tearing down statues and have moved on to street names. Graffiti some street signs, tell the community that street was 'racist' thencherub
    • have the street named removed. "Racism" cured. Idiots.cherub

    • Or an less outrageous question. Who benefits from porn on qbn?pango
    • Wtf does the renaming of streets signs and the tearing down of statues have to do with porn? Lol. You commented 'do nothing' and I gave you a critique of whycherub
    • that stance is stupid. But don't let me stop you from riding any bandwagons you woke social justice warrior you. BLACK LIVES MATTER!!! lolololcherub
    • cuz this entire thread is about removing NSFW contents?
wtf does renaming street signs have to do with NSFW?!?!? lolol
      pango
    • There is only gloryautoflavour
    • I made the analogy bcuz the methodology is the same in both cases. 1)find something the woke crowd wants war with 2)send in goons to deface (spray graffitti)cherub
    • the offending street signs 3)go to city council with tears streaming down yer face about slavery/racism 4)hope nobody noticescherub
    • In sted's post, only difference is you replace spraying graffitti with sending in people to upload illegal porn. Manufactured crisis, then a ban on all porn.cherub
    • In both cases, the obvious thing to do is just remove tiny portion of the population causing the problem to begin with but you woke crowd find that too sensiblecherub
    • Changing the names of streets and removing those statues does help the future. If you can’t grasp that then you’re a narrow minded fool.monospaced
    • And the idea that removing porn is akin to changing ehat we choose to represent in American streets is stupid AF. No offense.monospaced

    • now tell me, who benefits from porn on qbn?
ok screw analogy. how about this. would you agree the existence of NSFW and related thread invites NSFW content?
      pango
    • also can't exactly remove someone when they simply posting what the threads asks for. Even if you do remove them, another mofo's just gonna pop up tmr.pango
    • "would you agree the existence of NSFW and related thread invites NSFW content?" yes it does, and I already stated my opinion elsewhere in the thread. I told emcherub

    We should do it already.

  • Nairn2

My thought - in the old days, NT/QBN would just do what the fuck it wanted to do. We all got ban hammered at some point, and probably rightly so.

Just make a decision and follow-through already.

NSFL should have been banned from day 1.

All I ask is that QBN doesn't start censoring things and becoming a Facebook-like site. If Simon's, and other tasteful nudes, can't be shown, that would be censorship, imho.

    • see, i appreciate the nsfl thread, but fuckit, i'm not precious about it. It, and others, don't need to be front and centre on an open design forum.Nairn

    - instead of bumping nsfw threads to page 1,
    bump only to page 3.

    and something like this:

    - css opacity or blur filter on posted images. every downvote increases the filter.

    - default filter setting is on.

    - toggle switch on/off filter in personal profile settings.

Isn't this about QBN being the new ffffound?

Going from design to nasty stuff is not cool

ffffound got shut down and I'm pretty sure the main reason was not hosting costs

Also about Simon or whoever, that's his work, he could post anything he shoots, we're not instagram here, nudity is nothing shameful

but all the guys posting nasty stuff under anonymity on a public forum where other professionals post real work and use real names...bruh...

I mean posting latest work next to threads about toilets and all kinds of weird af stuff, bro grow up!

sure go ahead downvote me, this place has gone down so much I just feel sorry for many around here

p.s. outfits that use "we're a family here" are usually the shittiest places...

    • @sted lol the fact that people have MULTIPLE accounts to post shit here...

I do also have lots of positive chats but you refuse to see those

A good point made in the comments here -
Take a look at the list of sites where content has been blacklisted (e.g c@r0collective for the last decade) and reflect on how many of these ‘editorial’ choices have contributed to the decline of design content being posted here...
If it’s technically unfeasible then post the problem and someone here will solve it.. embrace the spirit of web forums and live a little
Or work with us here and let’s write the community guidelines...
There are loads of things you could be doing to improve the family but you need to go into therapy before you can fix the kid’s.
