Hat is off to Zuck for publicly releasing Llama 3 today.
I've been testing it on my MacBook Pro M1 and so far, I'm impressed.
You can give it a go yourself using Ollama or Misty.
Or meta.ai While the images aren't quite as good as Midjourney's, I like that there is a simple way to animate them.

Meta revenue soars as it pivots to AI and announces dividends for investors
Cash flow beat investor expectations and shares rose as the tech giant authorized a $50bn share buyback programMeta shares soared 15% in after-hours trading following a strong fourth-quarter earnings report released the day after CEO Mark Zuckerberg took a beating in a contentious congressional hearing.
The company also announced it will pay a 50 cent-per-share dividend to investors for the first time, and has authorized a $50bn share buyback program.
Overall, Meta reported fourth-quarter revenue of $40.1bn, beating the predicted $39.18bn and up 25% year-over-year. The report comes as Meta, like many of its big tech peers, is seeking to integrate artificial intelligence tools into its core products. In a statement accompanying the report, Zuckerberg said Meta has “made a lot of progress on our vision for advancing AI and the metaverse”.

Meta (META) announced today (Oct. 30) that it will charge Facebook and Instagram users in Europe a subscription fee for an ad-free experience starting in November. The subscriptions will cost €9.99 ($ 10.60) per month for web and €12.99 ($13.79) for mobile apps. Initially, one subscription will cover all accounts linked to its owner. But starting March 2024, users will have to pay an extra fee for each additional account, which will be €6 ($6.37) per month for web and €8 ($8.49) for mobile. The rollout came just days after Meta CFO Susan Li shared an update on the company’s European ad strategy.

Peak social media is when you can watch a tiktok video on twitter about people doing nothing but eating at facebook/meta hq. and the musketeer who owns twitter comes in and expresses his doubts about the reality presented in that video.

Ireland's Data Protection Commission has fined Instagram and Facebook parent Meta 390 million euros (about $414 million) for violating EU privacy laws with its targeted advertising.
The regulator also asked Meta to start asking for explicit consent for personalized advertising within three months. Meta says it will appeal the decision.

Although these cases are probably an uphill battle to win in court, the basic allegation is pretty damning...
"Facebook has repeatedly come under fire for expanding into countries with low media literacy, rapidly growing to encompass a large fraction of internet traffic in the area, and failing to devote sufficient resources to moderation in the local languages. That describes its role in Myanmar, where the site faces compensation claims worth more than £150bn after legal action was launched in the UK and US last December."
