I'll fucking fight you to the death for it. The man left alive gets to say which meditation method is the best. :D

People will spend $$ on a gym membership and $$$$$ on a personal trainer. No one really considers that a cult or scam in the same way.

TM and guided meditations are like meditation lite. Good for easing into it. And definitely have benefits. If you’ve tried various meditation techniques and are looking for something deeper, Zen meditation or Zazen is the hardcore shit. It doesn’t have the comfort of repeating a mantra or listening to a recorded voice. And that’s a good thing.

what do you trancend in TMᵀᴹ ?
I mean what's the goal of that meditation?

TM Scorecard:
A bunch of very successful creative people attribute some of their success to TM.
A bunch of relatively unsuccessful old codgers on QBN say it’s bogus.
What do you think? ;)
- A bunch of very successful creative people also attribute some of their success to Scientology.mort_
- ^not true. Those people were all successful before they became Scientologists.nb
- Many of the TM-advocates who give credit to TM were doing it long before they became successful.nb
- Side note: Scientology is a cult “religion.” TM is just a clubnb

Meditation is great but TM seems like an opportunistic way to monetize it to me.
Start with the headspace app. Or Sam Harris's Waking Up app.
Eventually you'll find you don't need guided meditation or a mantra. You can just sit and notice your thoughts, your breath, the feeling of your body, sounds of traffic, whatever appears to be happening.

“TM is just a scam to make money off meditation! You should try Sam Harris’ app for $14.99/mo plus applicable taxes! or Headspace for $69.99/year!”
Lol guys.
I haven’t learned TM so I can’t say one is more effective than the other. But I do like the idea of a human guide that acts as an educator to the practice. Sure, it’s expensive, but they also give discounts to low income people.
I’ve learned in life that you get what you pay for. These apps are just pre-recorded “one size fits all” solutions. A personal meditation coach is certainly worth a lot more than that.

I believe they have a paid program...but they have enough free stuff on youtube to get you going.uan

Guided meditation like headspace is a good shout.
When you realise what works for you then you can run with it yourself and cancel the subscription.Hardest part is keeping yourself from falling asleep ;)

Years ago bought Lynch' book, read it, and get bored of the subject.
My "current technique" consists of working too hard and fainting exhausted.
Sure TM would be helpful, but, for me at least, it's at the bottom of the long list of things to "learn"...

@mort_
I've done other kinds of meditation, and had benefits from it.
I'm specifically interested in discussing TM.

I’ll tell you what, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s ass, but I’d rather take the butcher’s word for it.
