Been playing with chatgpt and feeding in essay questions from classes I teach.. and all I can say is it’s all downhill from here.. it’s so good.. easy 70% mark if not more ..

How universities are going to stop it, no idea..

Just watched a tiktok of it writing a commercial lease for a building in Miami or something and it just smashed it out.. guess lawyers are fucked

  • Nairn4

Low bar lawyer-ry is something I've hoped for from AI for almost two decades now.

I saw someone had prompted it to provide javascript for a website that would calculate your tax return. Aside from missing one of the tax brackets, it provided a basically functional set of code. Crazy stuff.

    • Because that code is already somewhere on stackoverflow

Common, the engine just mixes together stuff, chill

AI will do a better job at attorney and doctor work (with a much smaller margin of error)

The AI revolution has officially begun.

    It's a great experience.
works like an assistant from the movies.

Used it to write a course curriculum and then to translate it to german...it took like 2 minutes to accomplish this.

I had to dissect it and proof read to make it a real thing, but the capability of outlining stuff so fast from a prompt...mindblowing.

it's way better than googling things and then find the right answer by yourself.

    This thing is insane.

Here are the 10 mindblowing things you can do using it right now (thread):

If a machine can do your job you should be thankful for the machine.

    Why Google Missed ChatGPT
The tech giant believes the future of search is conversational. How did it let OpenAI’s ChatGPT take the lead?

    What a time saver.

I've been using it to do the most mind-numbing tasks like writing scope of work, processes, methodologies etc for proposals.

Things that would take me days and sucked the life out of me I can now do in minutes.

me: If we trained our super powerful telescope on a planet a light year away and we observed an outdoor concert by space Elvis and space Elvis also broadcast his concert over the radio, and we had a radio receiver strong enough, we would be able to hear space Elvis’ concert as we watched it through our telescope correct?

    -------------------------------

If we were able to train a super powerful telescope on a planet that is one light year away and observe a concert by Space Elvis, we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time as we observed it. This is because the distance between the planet and Earth is too great for the sound waves from the concert to reach us in a reasonable amount of time.

Sound waves travel at a much slower speed than light waves. In the Earth's atmosphere, sound waves typically travel at a speed of about 340 meters per second, or about 0.0012 times the speed of light. This means that it would take sound waves much longer to travel from a planet that is one light year away to Earth than it would for light waves.

Furthermore, even if Space Elvis were broadcasting his concert over the radio, the radio waves would still need to travel at the speed of light in order to reach us. This means that we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time as we observed it through our telescope.

In summary, if we were able to observe a concert by Space Elvis on a planet that is one light year away, we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time.

    -------------------------------

me: ok, If space Elvis who is on a planet 1 light year away broadcast his concert over the radio, we could listen to his concert a year later on our radio receivers correct?

    ------------------------------

If Space Elvis on a planet that is one light year away broadcast his concert over the radio, it would be possible to listen to his concert on Earth a year later. This is because radio waves travel at the speed of light, which means that it would take them at least one year to travel from the planet to Earth.

The speed of light is a universal constant, and it is the fastest speed at which anything can travel in the universe. This means that it would take light about 31.6 million seconds, or about one year, to travel from a planet that is one light year away to Earth. Because radio waves travel at the speed of light, it would take them the same amount of time to travel from the planet to Earth.

Therefore, if Space Elvis on a planet that is one light year away broadcast his concert over the radio, it would be possible to listen to the concert on Earth a year later, when the radio waves reached us.

In summary, if Space Elvis on a planet that is one light year away broadcast his concert over the radio, it would be possible to listen to the concert on Earth a year later.

    --------------------------------...

Me: And if at the same time we had a powerful enough telescope to view the concert we could both see it and hear it at the same time

    --------------------------------...

If we were able to train a super powerful telescope on a planet that is one light year away and observe a concert by Space Elvis, who was also broadcasting his concert over radio waves, we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time as we observed it.

Even if we were able to observe the concert by Space Elvis from the moment it started, the sound waves from the concert would still take a significant amount of time to reach us. This means that we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time as we observed it.

Furthermore, even if Space Elvis were broadcasting his concert over the radio, the radio waves would still need to travel at the speed of light in order to reach us. This means that we would not be able to hear the concert at the same time as we observed it through our telescope.

In summary, it is not possible to hear a concert at the same time as we observe it through a telescope, even if we are able to observe the concert from the moment it starts.

    • I've been arguing with it all night about space Elvis lol_niko

"ChatGPT is incredibly limited, but good enough at some things to create a misleading impression of greatness.

it's a mistake to be relying on it for anything important right now. it’s a preview of progress; we have lots of work to do on robustness and truthfulness."

Not sure how it works but it doesn’t seem to scour the internet, it tries to use logic but not super well it seems:

    My test for it:

A farmer, a chicken, a dog and a bag of grain are trying to cross a river on a small boat, the farmer only had room for himself and one of either the dog, the chicken or the grain to take with him. He must bring all three across to the other side safely. However he can’t leave the dog alone with the chicken because the dog will eat it and he can’t leave the chicken alone with the grain because the chicken will eat it, what’s the solution?

    Chatgpt’s wrong answer:

One solution would be for the farmer to take the chicken across the river first. He can then leave the chicken on the other side of the river and go back to pick up the dog. The farmer can then bring the dog across the river and leave it with the chicken. Finally, the farmer can go back one more time to pick up the bag of grain and bring it across the river to join the chicken and the dog. This way, the chicken is never left alone with the grain and the dog is never left alone with the chicken, so both the chicken and the grain will remain safe.

    • I kept asking I to ry again and told it why it was getting it wrong but it could never come to the right conclusion_niko
    • What's the answer?shapesalad
    • the hint is drop one off pick one up_niko
    • yes, but if you take grain across first - you leave he dog with the chicken. If you take the dog, you leave chicken with grain.shapesalad
    • if you take chicken.ok, dog and grain left is ok. But, next you got to either take dog or grain and leave it with chicken, so back to no solution.shapesalad
    • the trick is drop one and bring one back for a return journey_niko
    • amazed shape has never encountered this riddlekingsteven
    • ^ to be fair, he may not have a chicken, dog, grain, and/or a river to traverseGnash
    • ^lol same. This is 7 year old stuff. The only reason GPT got it wrong is because children that young aren't playing around with it yet.garbage
    • In grade school I got in trouble for the solution: "Dog and rice in the boat, and I swim behind the boat with the chicken".garbage
    • the drop one, bring one back, still doesn't work. So I take the chicken firstly... now I take the grain, and bring back the chicken. Now i take grain...shapesalad
    • ... but fox has eaten my chicken and Putin has torpedo'd my boat. So I'm f*ck any way I go about it.shapesalad
    • C'mon shape...Take chicken. Come back for dog. Drop dog bring chicken back. Take grain, leave chicken. Drop grain with dog, go back bring chicken for last trip.ETM
