I think the TV is going to happen in the next year or two. It's not about shifting the units, it's about strapping down deals to make huge money from the content in the same way they made/make masses of money from the iTunes Music Store.

I would have thought in reality, their competitors wont be Sony or LG, it'll be companies like Netflix. As soon as they have the deals in place with studios etc we'll see the Apple TV sets arrive.

As for the watch... fucked if I know!

    • Why would they make a TV if they can just make a box?monospaced
    • I'm not saying there's no reason to make the TV, but the perceived lack of profit from selling units isn't the be all and end all.Wolfboy
    • Maybe they think people would be more likely to buy in to a TV set rather than the existing Apple TV box?Wolfboy
    • They are selling millions of box units already and are releasing a new one soon with an SDK.monospaced
    • So do you think all the TV set rumours are a red herring and we're not going to see one?Wolfboy
    • I don't think we'll see an Apple TV set, no. But I could be wrong. Don't trust rumors, they're nothing more than that.monospaced
    • Makes sense they would instead license the technology to TV makers.ETM
    • But with a specific guideline to meet certification, something like THX.ETM
    • If they do, I bet the standards and restrictions would even make IOS developers cringe.CyBrainX
